Today, Iâm having a latte from Ryderâs Cup coffee where everybody knows your name! It truly feels like Cheers and itâs a hidden gem for sure. This is the 20th coffee shop I've visited in NY and PA. The shop sits adjacent to Chautauqua Lake and you can sit outside to get a beautiful view of the water. Iâm drinking a foamy, white mocha that is quite delectable, and I absolutely love the art here. The various cafe tables are painted by local artists and please take a second to look at the Alice in Wonderland themed table in my pictures. The Cheshire cat smiles wildly in the bottom right corner and the table is adorned with a perfectly patterned checkerboard.
I had a moment to discuss the history of the shop with the owner, Joyce. She talked about the history of Ryderâs Cup and how it started in 2002. Three brothers ran the shop and they were into snowboarding and other athletic events, hence the name Ryderâs Cup. Joyceâs niece was working with the three gentlemen when they decided they wanted to sell the business. Just graduating from high school, the niece couldnât necessarily run it alone. She decided to ask her aunt if she was interested in acquiring the rights to the shop. Joyce bought it! --
I highly recommend this shop for the delicious drinks, the amazing art, and the community feels. The store is also nestled inside a bookstore -- so itâs a dream of a place to...
Read moreI love visiting local coffee shops and anywhere around my favorite lake, Chautauqua! So Ryders Cup is an obvious stop for me. I've been going for many years now and always try to stop at least once while my family vacations nearby. It's a great, convenient location right along the main drag in Lakewood, close to all of the walkable shops and near the lake and park. Parking is mostly on the street, but there are a couple slots and even space for bicyclists, I've seen many stop here on rides through Lakewood.
Inside used to be split into the coffee shop on one side and a bookstore, now a gift shop, that has since moved up the street on the other. There is a decent sized yet cozy seating area and a nice menu divided into hot or cold drinks. I'm an artist, and they were kind enough to let me display some of my work on the walls a few years back, it even lead to a sale! My go-to drink is usually a mocha, but I've also tried a few of the frozen drinks which can't be beat on a hot August day. Tim Hortons is not far, but come support this independent business and then walk down to the lake to enjoy the...
Read moreWe happened upon RydersCup coffee as we had just got off our bicycles and I was in need of a latte! A great little shop near the foot of the street by the lake, they had a great selection of teas, coffees and pastries. The seating was comfortable and cosy, making it an excellent place to go with a group of friends. The muffins we had were huge and tasty. Everything was reasonably priced. They had art by local artists adorning the wall, and we bought a very small piece to take with us. We would definitely go back if we were...
