To be fair, I really cannot recommend Lakewood Beach as an actual "beach". I don't even know if it is open this year for swimming (due to Covid-19 and lack of workers). When I was a kid living in Lakewood, this was one of my favorite places. My mom bought a season pass, sewed it on my swimsuit, and I was good to go all summer. There was a dock with a ladder at the end, you could swim out to a large wooden raft that had a big slide on it that allowed for a joyous ride into the water. Sadly, the raft and slide are no longer there. There was, and is, a very small stretch of brown sand that allows for sunbathing and sand castle building. Lakewood Beach today is more pretty park and green space than beach, I think.. A nicely mowed stretch of grass flows down to the water. There are two blacktop tennis courts open for play. A playground sits to the left of the park as you look toward the lake. A pretty gazebo sits in the middle of it all, offering a cooler shady space. If you are in the area and are looking for a place to take your kids to play, this is it. If you are looking for a peaceful place to sit and read a book, you've found it. But...if you're looking for a serious beach for sunning and swimming...maybe...
Read moreCool green grass to lay on or put a sheet down on the lawn leading to the beach ! the sandy part of the beach is small but who cares. the swimming perimeter is not large but its big enough to actually swim in. I'll take laying on the cool green lawn then in sand anyday. Haven't been there for years but will surely make time this summer. I prefer weekdays because weekends i would think be crowded . And you can take a walk around the adjacent neighborhood and admire the Victorian homes. I hope they still have the floating (and no doubt anchored) little "dock"(for lack of a better word) to jump off of. If memory serves me, the hours included mornings too 15 or 20 years ago. bit dissapointed this website says 12-5:00 pm . And again from what i think i remember is that point park beach is free after 5pm and beach closes at 8pm. Just have to go north and cross the bridge to the east side of Chautauqua lake a left at first highway crossroads and you'll see signs to point park. and a great marina to...
Read moreWitnessed someone either renewing their vows or doing something not meant for my eyes since everyone dipped as soon as we arrived. So,,,I'm either happy for them or terrified for myself. Regardless, It's a gorgeous little spot that overlooks the water and is a perfect place to enjoy a picnic with family and just enjoy the water. The area itself is a bit small though, so trying to stay away from others can be a challenge on a busy day. Overall, 6/10 would renew my vows or witness a secret...
