We have been huge fans of Avicolli's for many years and have eaten here many times. Having not eaten there in at least a year I decided to order from GrubHub while staying at a clients for the weekend. I have never used GrubHub before but it was an extremely frustrating experience. I paid $53 dollars for my meal (moz sticks, alfredo, garlic knots and a slice of cheesecake). When my order arrived there were two packages left outside. One package was mine but the other package was for a man named Ken. I contacted the driver and sent him a photo to explain that he left someone elses order along with mine. After bringing my order inside and unpacking the bag I discovered that part of my order was missing, the Oreo Cheesecake. Again I contacted the driver to alert him and he stated he would inform GH. He never apologized and never answered my question of whether I needed to reorder or would someone else be delivering my missing item. GH did end up refunding the missing item after I called the restaurant to try and find out if they had forgotten the item or if the driver hadn't picked it up. The manager couldn't confirm if the mistake was Avicolli's or if the driver had let it fall out of the bag. After explaining what happened to my best friend, Shaun, he decided to surprise me and secretly ordered ANOTHER slice of cheesecake for me... he paid $15 for a single slice of cheesecake and when it arrived the item was so small for the price that it was laughable almost. Shaun also contacted GH and GH called Avicolli's about it because even they said they were confused by the item size and wondered if it had been a mistake. Avicolli's informed them that the item comes precut and packaged and that there was nothing they could do unless I wanted to go there and pick up another piece which I can't do as I have no car which is why I ordered delivery to begin with. Resigned to the fact that this was a veryyyy expensive disappointment I ate my tiny slice in three bites. To review the cheesecake itself I will say.. it too was also a huge disappointment. For being an Oreo cheesecake there was hardly any oreo flavor or taste to it other than a little bit of crumb on the top. The cheesecake itself was dry and spongy, as if it had been sitting out too long. It tasted stale and old. Definitely not creamy and firm as you'd expect a cheesecake to be. For the $15 and the huge hassle I could have ordered an entire cheesecake from a bakery. The rest of the food for my order was as expected. Just a shame that this whole mess happened and everyone simply wanted to finger point. Won't be...
Read moreI took my husband here for his birthday and it was our first time ever visiting this location and only reason we came here is because we read the reviews on the other location in seneca/geneva. However Danielle was our RUDE AND NASTY waitress at the liverpool location and I told her it was our first time so you would think she would be more friendlier but nope, I preceeded to ask about certain this on the menu, mind you we never been here before or any Italian restaurant for that matter so a lot of stuff they had I didn't know what it was, so I order salmon which was half cooked and a mixture of rice, cheese, potatoes and whatever else was mixed in there, (called riotoni) think I spell it right. However I questioned Danielle about the name (Riotoni) which I didn't know because again, when I was asking question about the rice & potatoes (not knowing it was mix together) she kept saying it comes with rice AND potatoes, when you say it come with such and such, then use the word AND that means to me its something else that comes with it as well, but however I ask again trying to make sure I understand right she preceeded to get smart and say to me "it's just what it saids" well B#### I know what it saids, I just don't know what it consists off, which again sh kept saying the same thing over and over NEVER stating that it's a mixture of blah blah blah, but however I received my food ened up giving it back of course, then comes out supposed to be the GM, but he was so LOUD getting ever one attention while talking to me and my husband, which was embarrassing like we were giving him trouble, but however, he ended up taking my meal off, but I will not be returning all the waitresses was already starring when we walked in like they never seen black people before, so we already felt uncomfortable then to have a GM to come out to scream talk to us didn't make it no better, he didn't try to be discreet or nothing but our first time and last time for sure. Best thing about the ordeal was he took my meal off the bill. Danielle needs waitressing training and customer service and people skills training!!! Unless she just not used to...
Read moreThis used to be my favorite Italian restaurant in the Syracuse area. I hadn't been there in over a year. I wanted to treat myself to a nice dinner so I drove up. I was surprised to find that their prices have increased by at least 20%. I figured, ok, everything has gone up lately. At least their food is worth it. I ordered a Veal Parmigiana dinner. With a regular Pepsi, the check was over $27. Ok. Fine I'm treating myself, right? When the food arrived, I couldn't believe it. The Veal Parm was mostly breading and overcooked! Parts of it were burnt. It was so bad, I ate half my dinner and left. I did leave a nice tip because the service was excellent, but I don't think I will go back to what used to be my favorite Italian restaurant in Syracuse. Maybe I'll give them another chance in about six months from now. We'll see.
After I posted this review, the Manager, John reached out to me and apologized for the bad meal. He said that every once in a while, even a good restaurant trips up, and I agree. John sent me a Gift Card equal to the value of the meal I had. I went back and had another Veal Parmigiana. This one was done to perfection. For a change, I had the "Potato Wedges" as a side instead of pasta. They were quite delicious. I tried the French Onion Soup instead of salad. Not the greatest Onion Soup I've had, but not really bad.
In the end, I did appreciate that they did the right thing, so I've bumped the Stars up to Four from Three. I felt I couldn't give Five Stars because of the earlier meal. But I do recommend Avicolli's Italian Restaurant as one of the best Italian Restaurants...
