Me and my roommates went there on last Saturday to have dinner. As all three of us belong to South Asian Countries, so we preferred to have Indian food. One of us chose to have Mysore Masala Dosa and the rest chose Chicken Faal and Vegetable Vindaloo. Rice was served alongwith the dishes and it’s enough for both of us. We also ordered Mango Lassi and Chaye (tea). The lassi was good and as I felt thirsty I drank all of it at once. The taste of Chicken faal was good as it seemed to me cheese was also put in spices and also the chicken was well cooked but it's a spicy dish. Vegetable Vindaloo was one of it's kind spicy! It was so much for me that we just couldn’t have it further after one spoon. So if you are not well accustomed to have much spicy food then please just avoid this dish. I felt really uncomfortable after having it and my health didn’t do well. But the ambience and overall food experience was good and the staffs were really well mannered and kind. For the next time I would love to have Dosa from here as my friend told it was really good, be it in texture or size or be it about taste. Thank you!

The staff at this establishment is exceptionally friendly, with a special mention to Arun, who goes above and beyond to make your experience memorable. The food here is absolutely fantastic, and their service is impeccable, leaving no room for complaints. I wholeheartedly recommend visiting this place if you’re looking for an unforgettable dining experience. The atmosphere during dinner time is nothing short of amazing, creating the perfect setting for a relaxed and enjoyable meal. One of the standout items is the pappadam, which is crispy, flavorful, and truly delightful. Another must-try dish is their chilly chicken, which has quickly become my favorite due to its perfect balance of spices and mouthwatering flavors. For dessert lovers, the gulab jamun is an absolute masterpiece. Each bite feels like a taste of heaven, with its soft texture and rich sweetness that melt in your mouth. It’s a culinary treat that will leave you craving for more. Overall, this place offers a remarkable dining experience, and I highly recommend you give it a try!

Yes. The answer is yes, go here. You will not be disappointed whatsoever. The moment I walked through the door I knew I was going to really enjoy my time and the food. I honestly don't have much to say other than Karavalli is now my standard for Indian restaurants! The flavors were strong and not overwhelming, you can tell all the food was fresh, and the portions were just right (I have leftovers and I'm so very excited about that!). The customer service was spot-on, absolutely no complaints just compliments! For my first visit here I was left ready for my next of many visits so I can go through their extensive Vegan Menu, and then I'll go through their Vegetarian Menu, and then their Seafood Menu. I absolutely don't see my trips here stopping anytime soon! Oh, and they make a really good drink! For not having much to say, Karavalli has me saying a lot! You're going to really enjoy your time here, so again, the answer is YES!

One star for the experience we had here at this restaurant. We were here on a Friday evening for dinner. We placed order for a kurkuri bhindi appetizer, a masala tea and a Madras tiffin plate. A Madras tiffin is a plate with dosa, 2 vada and 2 iddlis. When the server brought in the plate, it had 4 vadas no iddlis so I asked him about the iddlis, he made a hand gesture and went towards the kitchen. He never attended us back, thus when the manager who took our order was around, I asked him if we could get the iddlis. For health reasons I wanted to have the iddlis specifically from the plater. The manager started to explain that the iddli is over for the day and immediately said that he could cancel our order. By this time we were eating the plater, we were 2 of us sharing the plate. The manager started to pull out the plate away from our table. He kept on saying he could cancel the order and started taking away our dinner. We said we are midway eating, and wanted to continue. Later placed an order of sambar and rice which never came. I mentioned to the manager that taking away someone's plate from infornt of them while they are actively eating is no good a gesture from the host. He immediately said- we have nothing more for you tonight, took away our plates and asked us to leave without paying. We estimated our dinner and kept cash on the table before leaving. Many restaurants run out of items during end of day in my experience. Sometimes after taking the order as well. The only thing needed here was to keep the guest informed. When kitchen informs that an item is not available, it's a simple step to let the guest know and ask if they still want their order. What we experienced was a restaurant with extreme pride and arrogance without having done the basics of...

Update 9/3/23: service was pretty bad. They never gave the chutney accompaniments with the papad ever after we asked . Then they took are papad while were eating it. Food took a long time to arrive. Bhel puri was not authentic at all. The Dosa was good and crispy but The masala (potato) in masala dosa was bland and needed salt. Gaajar(carrot) halwa was the worst I’ve ever had in my life. No cardamom or carrot flavors. Awful.

(2020 review) Karavalli used to be the best Indian restaurant in Albany. But now not so much. I’ve been there thrice recently. Once before renovation and twice after. And I’ve been underwhelmed with food all three times. Last time I dined there, I ordered chicken biryani and was super oily with no typical biryani flavor. The chicken was tasteless and hard. Probably the worst chicken biryani I’ve ever had. Most of their dishes have lost flavor. A lot of their gravies/curried are unnecessarily made too sweet. Last night I ordered take out. One of the main course paneer Masala dishes had burned black zeera/onions in it and it had sugar in it. All main course dishes were quite bland and seemed to have no salt. I asked for mild spice level because I can’t eat spicy food but that doesn’t mean food should have no flavor at all! May be it’s better to stick to South Indian dishes and avoid ordering any North Indian dishes here.

The place looks good after the renovation. No doubt. But they also increased their prices. I’m not sure what happened to the quality of the food. May be the lead chef changed ? May be food sucked because all three times I went there on a slow...
