A birthday cake for the books.
Placed an online order for my 35th birthday cake, the process is pretty simple and the turnaround time on my quote was very fast. Went with a 6 inch round, the almond/raspberry cake, cherry filling, and peanut butter frosting. My theme for the cake was fall/autumn trees, and the total came to $75. Quite the pricy cake, but this is a once a year thing so that was whatever.
While the site itself was not updating my order status at all, even now it still says "in progress", the cake was ready and waiting for me on my chosen pickup date. It looks great, the theme I picked was expertly done, and I even nabbed a few other goodies for dinner that night as the cake was for the next day.
When I did finally dig into the cake the next evening, I was amazed at how rich and sweet the peanut butter frosting was. They must have used a powered peanut butter for it, since it was a very pale color, but it still packed that same peanut punch. Reminded me of the filling they had in those Planters PB Crisps. The cake base itself was very dry however, and I know I went to a gluten free choice so my entire party could enjoy, but that was in serious need of hydration. And the cherry filling did little to assist in that endeavor, as it only took up the very core of the cake. I was rather let down by how little cherry filling there was, as the frosting also took up about 25% of the space for filling. Likely to plug the cherry inside the cake, but that really left so little room for the chunkier cherries. Not the best cake I've ever had for a birthday celebration, but that frosting held its own.
As for everything else, all the miscellaneous treats I picked up, they were all really good. My favorite was the shortbread funfetti cookie, a more subtle sweetness, but with that delicious buttery flavor. They could use some work on the lemon bar, as its crust was so thick it took over the texture, even though the lemon curd itself was super hefty.
Overall I was a bit let down on the cake's texture, being so dry, but the flavor was there and the design was perfect. The smaller treats were all really good, even the ones I took issue with, so I'd highly recommend anyone looking for a cookie or muffin for dessert stop in. They even offer day olds for...
Read moreI normally don’t write negative reviews but since the bakery tried to blame me for their poor cake design in the review my husband left, I feel I need to share my side. My husband’s review is the 1-star review by Sam. My order is in the photo below. As my husband stated, I asked for the theme to be pastel colors and daisies. We received a smash cake with daisies, and cupcakes with plain pastel frosting and no other decor whatsoever. As the owner mentioned, No, I didn’t specify where to place daisies on the cake because I trusted the bakery would come up with a design based on my request (pastels AND daisies). I did ask for a potential design review but they apparently aren’t able to do that. Perhaps a daisy on each cupcake, a simple daisy tooth pic at the very least, etc…..I’m confused on what more I needed to say in the description. I felt like it would be obvious that pastel frosting alone wasn’t the “design” we expected, especially based on the price of almost $300. I’m surprised by the bakery’s response that I should have been more specific on the request… this is why we ordered from a bakery that does specialty cakes -so they’d take the theme and actually apply it to the order!! In regards to the comments on the location change being the reason for them not correcting the order, that doesn’t make sense. It was pouring rain that day so we moved from an outdoor venue to an inside venue no more than 2 miles down the road. It’s not like we moved it to a different town, so to claim they would have fixed it if we stayed at the original location simply isn’t true. As far as stating my husband’s comments were inaccurate because he didn’t actually make the order, that’s ridiculous. You’re making the assumption he had no input or knowledge of the order which is just ignorant. I understand your defending your business but your comments are inappropriate and self serving. I’ve used the bakery for a cake before and was pleased, hence the 2-star review today and...
Read moreI struggled with whether or not I was going to give a review but I just found out a family friend of mine had a similar experience to me.. so I opted to leave this review. I am a single mom trying to plan my daughters first birthday and I am not cheap by any means but I am trying to stick with in a budget and decided to go to a few different bakeries on Friday to inquire about prices and to see what they offer. The girl who cashed me out at the front could not have been more rude. I was the only customer in there and she seemed annoyed that I was even in the building! (& I even bought two cupcakes and a dog treat so I was giving them business) I asked about making cupcakes with a daisy theme and I asked for an approximate price and she goes “um I don’t know.” And I’m like oh ok are you able to see a starting price and she looks something up and goes …. It starts at 80 you’ll have to inquire more online. I had some other questions and she couldn’t be bothered. And seemed annoyed I was even in there. I was literally the only customer in there and she seemed annoyed that she had to get off her phone and communicate with someone face to face.
And then today I was telling someone about my experience and she told me she inquired about cookies for my baby shower (she took care of all the sweets) and she said the girl on the phone was so rude she hung up on her and ended up getting them from a different place.
It cost nothing to be kind. That is all. I am a single mom just trying to throw a nice party for my daughter and wanted to check this place out in person and ask some questions in person and I just couldn’t believe the cold...
