My Fiancé, our son and i went to Red Rooster over in croghan for an early anniversary dinner. we usually go out to watertown and eat at one of the larger chain restaurants but wanted to support local this time and try something new! We have NEVER been to the Red Rooster despite all of the buz we’ve heard about it! Unfortunately we did NOT have a great experience there!!!!!!!!!!!!
When we first got there we sat down and waited for our menus The waitress ( blonde curly hair with glasses i didnt catch her name) could clearly see that i was struggling to maintain my 15 month old son in the booth, after she came over and took our drink order i was still struggling to keep my 15 month old in the booth. when she came with our drinks i asked her if i could use one of the chairs from the tables across from the booth to put my son in, i used my sweatshirt to basically tie him down to the chair to make a makeshift high chair for him. she comes back to take our food order and everything was fine, i had contained my son and was looking at the menu and ordered (I got a ham dinner w/ mashed potatos and carrots and my fiance got the meatloaf special along with a bowl or there soup). A nice older lady who had just got done eating there herself comes over to our table to tell me that they have high chairs for young children! i said oh i did not know that bc this is our first time here. She left and i was stunned, why didn’t the waitress offer me a high chair after my son had almost ran into her bc he had climbed out of the booth under the table? Why did an older lady who happened to be a customer herself have to tell me that there were high chairs? why wasnt one offered when we first got there? Anyways i managed with my sweatshirt and the regular chair.
When our food came out i was very excited the food looked amazing but looks are deceiving! My ham was good my potatos were luke warm though and the carrots that came with my dinner were NOT seasoned at all and tasted terrible! My fiancés potato’s were also luke warm but all his other food was great untill we realized they never brought him his soup!!! Fast forward to when we are just about done eating the other waitress ( tall blond also didnt catch her name ) who was working comes out from around the corner and say i totally forgot about this and sets his soup on the table! at that point i was done eating, the entire time we were there the waitresses were behind the counter talking to the one guy who works back there not paying attention at all, not to mention my son usually eats by himself with spoon and only one was provided for the soup that came at the end of our meal!
For our first time and it being a Sunday (10/26/2025) close to closing time and not busy we are highly disappointed and wish there was more attentiveness and better...
Read moreWent for a bite to eat and ordered the fish fry with Mac n cheese. The fish was good size, had good flavor, no complaints. The Mac n cheese was a good portion but no flavor, very starchy, very little cheese and was not hot but more between a very low end of luke warm to cold. Two bites is all I could handle. We were never told the specials (but heard them being offered to other customers that came in after us) and the waitress we had only got our drinks, took our order and delivered our food, then disappeared. There was another waitress that was helping prior customers, asking if they needed anything, how was the meal, if they needed some tarter to go etc. That girl (I don't know her name but she had pink hair- was doing a good job). She's the one who actually asked us how our meal was and took our dishes. She's also the one who gave us our bill but forgot to ask if we wanted dessert (which I'm not sure if I could if ate anything as the fish was pretty big). But it's the still wanting to be asked as part of being not only a customer but making sure your customers needs are met from beginning to end. We may not of been 100% happy with the entire outing but still left a tip. For over $50, the food and service could of...
Read moreReally wanted a late breakfast since i found out that they served eggs Benedict at this restaurant, so my wife and I drove from Lowville where we were staying, only to find out that they stopped serving breakfast at 2:00. We then decided to just get what we could, so my wife ordered loaded tater tots with a bowl of fruit. (She has some dietary allergies). I went with the house Special which was pulled pork and waffle fries. Her tater tots were horrendous really. Just loaded with grease and the cheese was pretty nasty for some reason. My pulled pork was okay, but tasted like the frozen kind you get from a grocery store. The waffle fries were just bland really. The best thing about the meal was pretty much the dill pickle slices? I'm not sure, but I think the oil they cooked with might have needed to be changed. That was just a guess on my wife's part as she has worked in the restaurant business before. My final thoughts is that this is probably a great place for breakfast, but not so much for...
