Solid Middle Eastern flavors with room for improvement
As someone who grew up on traditional Middle Eastern cooking, I was excited to try Mr. Kebab while in Syracuse. Overall, I really enjoyed the food—the flavors are familiar, comforting, and mostly well-executed. You can tell the team puts effort into their presentation and authenticity.
That said, I do have a few suggestions, especially from a home cook’s perspective. Some dishes felt a bit under-seasoned—mainly lacking that finishing touch of lemon juice and salt that really brings out the brightness and depth of Middle Eastern cuisine. Of course, I’d rather have it slightly under than over—because you can always add, but you can’t take away.
I ordered the cube beef kebab, and that’s where I think they have the most opportunity to improve. The meat was very overcooked, making it tough and overly chewy. A little less time on the grill would really help maintain tenderness and elevate the dish entirely.
Still, I respect what they’re doing, and I’d absolutely come back. With just a few adjustments, this spot could go from good to...

I recently dined at Mr. Kebab on Thompson Street, a hidden gem tucked behind a Valvoline. Despite its slightly off-the-beaten-path location, this 11-month-old establishment is well worth the short detour.
The restaurant itself is spacious, clean, and modern. The owner, a friendly gentleman from Syria, greeted me warmly. His menu is concise and easy to navigate.
I ordered two kebab sandwiches, one chicken shawarma, a side of falafel, and fries. The kebab sandwiches were exceptional. I could see the kebabs being cooked over flames in the back, giving them an incredible charred flavor. The chicken shawarma was also delicious, and the falafel were perfectly crispy with well-seasoned ingredients. The fries were hot and perfectly crisp.
The entire experience was delightful. The family-run business, with the owner and his two sons working together, creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The food is fantastic, and the prices are very reasonable.
I highly recommend Mr. Kebab to anyone looking for authentic and flavorful Middle...
Read moreFor a new restaurant in Syracuse this place offers a nice selection of authentic Mediterranean cuisine. The food was served hot, fresh and delicious isn't enough of a word to describe how the food taste. It's a small restaurant but very very clean. We didn't find a spec of dirt in that place, staff was very friendly, approachable and attended to all our needs. The prices at the restaurant were a little high but what isn't nowadays? The price would not keep me from going again. You could spend 40$ at a fast food place and go hungry 2 hours later, where as this food was not only flavorful but a healthier option. I would highly recommend this place to anyone that wants to try...
