Ishnala Supper Club — Restaurant in Town of Delton

Treated my mom to Ishnala tonight. It was on her bucket list to go. We got there right at 230pm& we each ordered an old fashion (they were really good!) & we ordered the prime appetizer & cheese curds (both were great!) Bartender was fantastic! Very friendly. My mom ordered a sierra mist&right away our buzzer went off. The bartender said to my mom"make sure you take your sierra mist drink w you cause its free refills" so she did. We're seated & the waitress asks us what we'd like to drink. I said "I'll have a diet pepsi." My mom points to her glass& says "& I had a sierra mist." Waitress brings out the beverages. We ordered the special- steak& lobster. Everything was fantastic-the views, food& service, until the check comes. I let the waitress know we were finished & I saw how much of a line there was for tables so I gave her my credit card before she even brought the bill. I figured I'd try to speed things along & pay as quickly as possible to free up a table for others to have. She charges my card & brings the reciept for me to sign. I noticed that I was charged for the sierra mist again that we had already paid for & tipped the bartender on. The waitress was pretty busy, so it took about 10 minutes to flag her down. She finally pops over and I said "I just have a question, I'm just a little confused because we already paid for the sierra mist at the bar."The waitress says "I'm so sorry but we dont do free refills here. There are no free refills." I said "are you sure? Cause the bartender told my mom to take her glass with because it's free refills." She said "yes, I'm sorry there are no free refills." At this point I'm extra confused because she was giving me free refills on my diet pepsi during dinner. I said "can you check with management? Because the bartender said there are free refills." She acted annoyed and said sure & walked away. She comes back & says "as a one time courtesy , I'm going to go ahead & take it off your bill but we normally dont do that." I said "I'm not looking to get anything for free so if you really dont do free refills, I have no problem paying for it. I'm not looking to cheat anyone out of any money."She said "no, it's really not a problem at all. I'm so sorry about that. I'm so sorry. I'm sorry. So you can just sign here on the line and put your tip here & I'll take care of it." I said "okay, but don't you need to bring out a new bill with the corrected amount on it?" And she said "honestly, it's really annoying & not worth the time for me to go in and have to change it, so you can just take the $4.00 out of my tip." I said "I'm not going to cheat you out of your tip. I'm not going to do that to you." & she said "I absolutely insist. It's not a big deal.Please just take it out of my tip, it's not a problem. No worries!" I said " no, if there's really no free refills on a $4 soda, I'm not going to cheat you out of your tip. I'm not comfortable doing that to you." She said "the reason you were charged for the sierra mist is because you didnt tell me it was a refill. If it was a refill, you wouldnt of been charged but I didn't know that. I didnt know what was in your moms glass. It could of been a vodka with water. So that was my fault but no really I insist you just take it out of my tip. Have a great night!" & she walked away. Wow. Okay, so first she's lying say they dont do free refills on $4 sodas & then she's saying we were charged because she didnt know what was in my moms glass (even though my mom pointed to her glass & said I had a sierra mist).It's the principle of the situation. We already paid for the product at the bar & now youre charging us again for the same product we already paid for plus it's an inconveinance for her to right her wrong mistake? Well, Alessandra, you originally did a good job serving but the ending left a bitter taste in my mouth- so I did end up taking it out of your tip. You would of had a 20% tip on the most expensive item on the menu but instead you only got a 10% tip. I'll remove this post in the coming weeks, but I thought management...

My family and I have been going to Ishnala for years. While their no reservation policy has always been frustrating and their food subpar, the view and general ambiance have kept us coming back, that will no longer be the case after tonight. I have never felt so mistreated at a restaurant. Shame on the entire management staff including the owner, Bob Prosser. My husband was to meet my mother and I for dinner however he was delayed because of a bad accident on I94. When checking in we were informed it would be a 2-2 1/2 hour wait. I told the hostess that my husband would be joining us and she asked is he was there yet to which I replied not yet. She then stated that she couldn’t count him in our party unless he was there. Frustrated by the situation I begrudgingly took the pager looking around noticing there were a number of parties or two seated at four tops assuming that if my mother and I were seated at a four top we would have my husband join but if we weren’t that he could just eat at the bar. When my husband arrived shortly thereafter, he went to ask the hostess if it looked like we might be getting a four top so that he could join. The hostess stated if he wanted to join us we’d have to go back to the bottom of the waiting list. Sensing our frustration as my husband came back to the bar, the bartenders informed us that they always tell their customers who are waiting on other guests to tell the host staff that those people are just parking the car to avoid this. While I appreciated their candor, this frustrated me even more. My husband then went to ask for a manager to see if there was anything he might be able to do which is when he also ran into owner, Bob Prosser. Shortly after my husband began to talk to the two of them, Bob walked away and over to the bar where my mom and I still sat. Bob then began to tell two patrons next to us how there was a situation and that he left the manager to “handle the guy”. Unable to hold my tongue any longer I told him that “that guy” was my husband and asked why they were unwilling to help us in any way, loyal customers that had been coming for years. He began to provide some ridiculous excuse and when I asked why it would be a problem when almost every party or two in the restaurant was seated at a four top, he did something I still can’t believe. He made a face, turned away as I was speaking and walked/almost ran away. Never once did my husband or I raise our voice or use any profanity and we certainly didn’t deserve to be treated the way we were by an owner and management that clearly have no regard for customer service. It is clear we were nothing more than a number to them and I suppose if you’re filling your restaurant every night, I can almost understand where you might have that heir about you however as someone who has been in the customer service industry for over 25 years I can’t fathom how you could run a business that way. However when I reflect back on all the times we’ve dined at Ishnala and all the times we’ve opted not to because of 4-5 hour waits I understand it. They never immediately seat you even when you arrive prior to opening. They want you to wait at minimum an hour to be sat (usually 2-3) so people have no choice but to sit at one or their many bars and wrack up an additional tab that they likely would not have if they would have just been sat at their table. Then when they finally are sat their treated to luke warm subpar food. It also bears mentioning that when my husband was talking to the manager he asked him if we were seated at a four top if he could not have just joined us to which the manager responded “no I wouldn’t have allowed that”. That means they would have knowingly turned away business from empty seats all because of their need to feel powerful in some way and that if we would have just lied like the bartenders suggested we do the next time we would have been fine. However, there will never be a next time. We left, went to Dawn Manor for the first time, had an incredible experience with significantly better food...

From the moment we drove up the winding wooded road to the moment we left, the experience was nothing short of magical. The setting alone is enough to inspire awe: tall pines lining the peaceful waters of Mirror Lake, a rustic yet elegant lodge-style building perched with perfect views, and an atmosphere that speaks of Wisconsin tradition and hospitality. You can tell the space is loved—by both staff and guests alike. But it was everything inside—from the incredible staff to the phenomenal food—that made our visit truly unforgettable.

From the moment we walked through the doors, we were welcomed with such warmth and sincerity. The staff at Ishnala is not just well-trained—they genuinely care. Each person we interacted with was not only courteous and professional, but also kind, engaging, and even enjoying a good laugh. It’s rare to find a team so perfectly in sync, providing service that is efficient without being rushed, attentive without being intrusive. Whether they were taking our order, recommending drinks, or simply chatting with us about the history of the place, they made us feel like honored guests.

Speaking of drinks; Ishnala is known for its Old Fashioneds, and they did not disappoint. The entire drink menu was crafted with care and precision. From the specialty cocktails to the wine selection and after-dinner drinks, everything was top-tier, both in quality and presentation.

The food exceeded even our highest expectations. Every dish we tried—from appetizers to dessert—was thoughtfully prepared and packed with flavor. We started with the escargo and the prime rib asparagus spears, both classics done exactly right. For the main course, the prime rib was tender, juicy, and cooked to perfection, while the tenderloin was rich and buttery, paired beautifully with the Ishnala wine. The sides—like the baked potatoes and fresh vegetables—weren’t just afterthoughts; they were delicious accompaniments in their own right. Every plate was not only satisfying in portion but plated with a touch of elegance that made the whole meal feel like a special occasion.

One of the highlights of our evening was meeting the owner, Bob Prosser. It’s clear he has poured his heart into Ishnala, and his presence is more than just symbolic. Bob made the rounds greeting guests, sharing stories, and checking in to make sure everything was perfect—and it was. He exudes a kind of gracious authenticity that’s rare these days, and it was a real pleasure to speak with someone so passionate and down-to-earth. He genuinely seemed to care about every person in the building, and it’s no wonder the staff mirrors that same attitude.

Beyond the food and the service, what makes Ishnala truly unforgettable is the setting. Located within Mirror Lake State Park, the restaurant is surrounded by pristine forest and serene water views. Dining here feels like being in the heart of nature without sacrificing comfort or quality.
