BAD PLACE! This was a weird experience. We were traveling as a family. My sister-in-law and her family booked one of the Boo-boo Chalets. My husband and mother-in-law each booked one of the “Retro Family Lodges,” which in actuality is a park model. In the past, my husband and I had stayed in park models before at other camp grounds, and the experiences we had with them were positive. The park models we had stayed in elsewhere proved to be spacious and pristine, met the needs of our family, and so we had no problem booking one of the “Retro Family Lodges” that Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park had to offer, especially since the pictures of said lodges that were featured on their website looked clean and sturdy. When we arrived, my family and I found out we were in “Retro Lodge” (park model) 159, and my mother-in-law was next to us in 161. The minute I walked in, I was instantly repulsed. So much so that I started dry-heaving and crying. I have personally seen slums in Medellín, Columbia that looked better than this park model and were in better shape. In this park model, panels were peeling off of cabinets, walls, and ceilings. All the fixtures were covered in rust. The side of the refrigerator looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in decades. In the bunk room, the ceiling was peeling, and was taking on a reddish hue, and I am not sure if that was rust, scum, blood, or something else. Three of the windows were cracked from the outside. Water stains were on the parts of the ceilings that were in-tact. There was a sad looking futon that was serving as a couch or sleeper, but I was terrified to sit on it. Everything in there was old, decrepit, and visibly covered in decades-old grime and filth that was firmly mashed into the pores of every surface. I shudder to think about what wasn’t visible, what lurked under ground and above me. My mother-in-law’s park model was worse. The condition of everything in the park model was the same as ours, only in hers, there were three holes in the wall, where mice evidently had come in, a pool of water around the toilet, and when she turned on the shower, rusty brown water came spewing out! We were sufficiently horrified. We informed the office and they told us we could move to one of the Boo-boo cabins the next day, as there would be vacancy in two of them starting then. In the mean time, they fixed my mother-in-law’s toilet problem and put mouse traps where the mouse holes were. If you are wondering, yes, she saw a dead mouse in one of the traps the next morning. It may interest you to know that these park models are 300 dollars a night! The next day, we moved into one of the Boo-boo Chalets, which were a huge improvement, but still kind of dirty. For the price a person pays for one of these, it would be very nice for the park to clean the mini blinds and handles to cabinets in the kitchen (they were sticky) and also maybe provide a Swiffer Wet Jet to keep the floors cleaner as most people track in dirt from the outside. providing just a broom is not going to cut it. I understand that a camp ground is for “roughing it” and that is all well and good if you want to find a lot and put up a tent. But there are people who want to camp but enjoy certain conveniences and those should be kept as clean and pristine as possible. I am appalled at the amount of money charged for the “lodges” and “chalets.” The lodges need to be bulldozed. They’re done for. They’re at least 45-50 years old and are probably paid off by now. Shame on Jellystone for offering these as places to stay, in the horrific condition they’re in and for charging as much as they do! As for the “chalets” though they are more comfortable, better maintained and cleaner, there still needs to be more attention given to detailed cleaning, especially if those are a step up in price from the park models. Overall, I am appalled by the blatant greed displayed by Jellystone, the false advertisement of the “Retro Lodges” on the website and the lackluster cleaning. For the prices they charge, there is room for vast...
Read moreAs Minnesota children in the 70s and 80s, our parents would book a week at Jellystone Park in Wisconsin Dells every summer; first in a tent, and later in a pop-up camper. Now in our late 40s, my brother and I wanted to take our own families for a nostalgic trip down memory lane and we were not disappointed! With neither of us carrying on the “camping gene”, we booked a 4 night stay for a late June Sunday-Thursday in a Boo Boo Chalet 6 sleeper for 3 adults and 1 child. Over the years, we’ve both decided we require AC & our own bathroom. :) Maybe we weren’t “camping” so much as “glamping” this visit, but still, it was totally a camping “feel” for us. Check-in welcoming and smooth. Our cabin was tucked in a beautifully wooded cul-de-sac sort of “neighborhood” of about 15 other Boo Boo Chalet cabins. LOVE!!!! Before I forget to mention it, if you have a dog, BRING him/her if he/she is a good boi/gurl. EVERYONE had their dogs and they were so well-behaved. Next year, we will bring our dog for sure. Anywhoo, the drive to our site seemed long, but the walks we’d take to the pool or rec center were nice, so don’t let the distance from the pool scare you off. Boo Boo Chalet 6 sleeper was a little different than we envisioned on the inside, but it turned out just fine. The 6 sleeper Boo Boo Chalets layout is such that you walk in, and in ours, in what felt like the living space was a double bed on the front left wall of the cabin, with a small shelving unit, microwave, and coffee maker (not a Kurig), and the refrigerator/freezer in the front right corner of the cabin, and AC unit on the right wall. The 2-bunk (sleeps 4) bedroom was in the back left corner. The back right corner was the shower stall, toilet, and sink (the only sink, just FYI). Worth noting that it’s $11 per night for parking a second vehicle at your site. Not at all outrageous, but was an extra charge we didn’t mind having to pay. We checked out the store which is packed with all price-points of items…a fun place to shop or just pick up a treat. JUST LIKE WE REMEMBER! LOVE IT! And after spending the afternoon at the pool, we had snacks from the Pic-a-Nic Basket (the concession stand near the pool). A nice add for adults….the pool-side bar where you could order adult beverages if you wanted. Activities: My 11 yo niece and I did tye-dying one day and ceramics another day. was $14 for a Yogi themed T-shirt and an easy project. The ceramics ran $3-$20, and a great surprise about the ceramics activity was that when you finish painting, they spray it with gloss so I really does look “professional”! I even brought mine home and displayed it on my corner cabinet! Our last night there it was Boo Boo’s Birthday Party so we gathered (with Boo Boo of course) at the Activity Center next to The Pic-a-Nic Basket where all the picnic tables are under an awning) and sang Happy Birthday and had cake & ice cream, then played a little shuffleboard (the one thing I wish would get a good facelift). Good times! Pool: Thumbs up. New to us: Nightime fresh cookie delivery if you order by 7:00pm. YUM! DO THIS! It costs about $8 for half a dozen FRESH FROM THE OVEN chocolate chip cookies delivered right to your door…and they even “accidentally” put an extra in ours. 🍪 Our stay was EVERYTHING we hoped it would be and MORE. We are not “campers” nor are we “fancy folk”, and if I had let the negative reviews I read before we booked our stay sway our decision, I’d be devastated that we would’ve missed out on such an amazing trip down memory lane. If you’re looking for somewhere to stay where 1) the campers seem almost like friends/neighbors right away (in a “Good morning!” way…not a creepy way); 2) the staff is friendly and accommodating; 3) the amenities such as the pool, activity schedule, and character visits are great….then BOOK NOW! As soon as their reservations open for next year, we will be booking an 8 sleeper Boo Boo Chalet for another trip down memory-lane….room for the dog in 2023! Thank you, Brent, family, and...
Read moreI paid for a weekend campsite at this campground and had an absolutely appalling experience. There was extreme overcrowding in the area I was camping. They had 33 people camping in 3 sites with each and every site around it filled. The pool area was littered with band aids, gum, the soaked insides of baby swim diapers were dolloped around the pool area and there was even a tampon on the edge of the pool that staff repeatedly walked by without a care in the world. When I brought up my concerns with management it took hours for me to be addressed. After the experience in the pool area and the fact that I had only chosen this place for the use of the aquatic area for my daughter, I asked for a partial refund of my unused time there since I was leaving because of the unsanitary conditions. They offered me free golf and wristbands for boats, but that meant nothing to my family as we were there for swimming as that is what my daughter loves. I had shot out an idea and asked for Noah's ark tickets as a possible remedy to the situation but had then pretty quickly expressed that I shouldn't have to leave and drive elsewhere with my family to swim in a sanitary environment when I had paid to have it within walking distance of me. Let alone the hassle of trying to stay there and have my daughter see this entire Waterpark area that I did not feel comfortable with her using, and it being the only reason we were there. They were so against returning any of my money it was just ridiculous. They ened up giving me 3 Noah's ark tickets that I'm sure cost them cents to the dollar in trade value. I packed my family and left not even knowing weather they were going to return my money or not due to the extremely poor conditions which go figure they most certainly did not refund even a fraction of the 3 nights I had paid for and only stayed once. The manager Natalie was great, but the owners of this location clearly only care about money coming in. Not upkeep or ensuring campers have a good experience. The owner guy had driven the manager woman who again was wonderful up to my site, never addressed me, never really gave a care at all. I have pictures of all of the fowl debris litering the pool area, and would not recommend anyone ever visit this place. The owners clearly care only about lining their pockets and could care less about the experience they are giving to families. To the extent of selling fire wood packs that were literally only bark for unreasonable prices. This is the worst camping experience I've had and I would truly not recommend bringing your...
