As a Dominican that moved here from NYC just a few years ago, I was so happy when El Dominicano opened up and was actually really good. I’ve been disappointed time and again by other Spanish spots nearby so I was definitely skeptical at first. They have authentic Dominican food and serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. The mangú con los tres golpes (mashed plantain with fried cheese, fried eggs and salami) are so good! The oxtail and chicken are also delicious. Though I haven’t had it yet, they also serve fish cooked in various ways and it seems to be very popular since it’s usually almost gone whenever I go. The oatmeal in the mornings is also traditionally made and very good. Desserts and drinks (morir soñando) are also a must!
The staff is friendly and helpful if you’re not sure where to start as there are many options! The owners are the nicest people and have done a great job with creating an authentic Latino ambiance, from the food to the music. They’ve also developed a diverse populace that comes for the great food! I always look forward to coming here for great food and great music and hope to see them here for many...
Read moreI hope this place maintains its quality because it’s my favorite lunch spot at the moment for personal & business catering as I work in the area.
THE GOOD: The tasty arroz con gandules (yellow rice and pigeon peas), a hearty portion of delicious pernil (pork roast), flavorful stewed black beans, and my bites of maduros (ripe plantains) hit the spot EVERY time. The tres leche cake is that cherry on the top of a delicious meal. It’s so yummy & milky with a nice meregue-ish icing. I get all this for lunch at the perfect price! The staff are always fast, kind, & attentive!
THE SHAMEFUL: Very little to mention. I’ve been many times and 10/10x have been flawless. Folks at work have complained recently of the beans lately being “off”. But I haven’t experienced that myself yet. So my rating of 5 stars holds strong until proven otherwise! Parking can be tricky, but patience is rewarded, most folks are in and out at lunch time fortunately.
Overall it’s my happy place. Save me some pernil! I’ll be...
Read moreGreat food! Flavorful. Great portions! Great service. I called ahead (because it was almost closing time) and when I got there, they were all out of pernil (roasted pork) so it paid to call ahead. I knew I had a busy week ahead so I ordered two dishes. Planned on eating one for two days, the other for the next two. I should have started with the pork dish but I started with the pollo guisado (stewed chicken). The next day, I had the pork. Delicious but I should have gotten the beans on the side because the rice soaked up the juice. The day after, I had the chicken and enjoyed it so much, I had it the fourth day as well, that’s how big their portions are. I was sad to have to throw away the rest of the pork but I don’t eat leftovers after four days. Now I know how amazing the portions and flavor are. I can’t speak to the atmosphere because I got my dishes to go. It’s a bit of a remote location but the flavor and portions made it...
