I've never written a review on here but felt it necessary to write one about this hotel. The Montauket is located close enough to the train station that it's possible to walk- one of the reasons I chose to stay there. The price seemed good at 82/nt for a room with private bath. The room turned out to have 3 single beds and 2 bedrooms. ||||I understand the bulk of business is done a few months out of the year but couldn't you anticipate the reopening and clean the rooms that are available for rent? I was told most rooms are occupied by people that live there year round. Let me get to the reasons why my visit to Montauk was so depressing and I left after less than 24 hours:||||1. VERY strong smell of moth balls and menthol when you enter the hallway of the motel||2. spiderwebs across doorways indicate rooms haven't been entered in a long time. Or cleaned.||3. bathroom is in very rough shape. Very dirty and falling apart. You'll need your flip flops for the dirty shower. I considered using the shared bathroom in the hall but braved the room's shower anyway. ||4. pulled back sheets and blanket in bed, opened towels-hair, stains, dead mosquito, food...asked the bartender for new ones and was handed a new set to put on myself by a very brash woman smelling of alcohol with attitude telling me basically not to be so picky and just be happy there's carpet in the room. Scary woman, mean, and bad attitude. ||5. my favorite- SO MUCH mouse droppings in the cabinet under the sink. I was disgusted to see that and scared to open the cabinet again to take a picture. Was afraid to mention this due to the attitude given over sheets and towels. ||||My review is for the bedroom, not the restaurant/bar that is very popular and rightfully so due to the amazing sunset. ||||No, I would not stay there again. I would never recommend staying there. Have a drink, sure. Spend more money and stay somewhere...

Read moreVery disappointed after this visit. Have been here many times, kind of every season tradition. Was waiting for 10 minutes at the bar, nobody asked anything. Flagged down a bartender. Cool, I got a beer. Later came back for the second one and mentioned to the bartender that I was probably by mistake charged $50 for ONE beer on my open tap. That big guy, who I remember from last year, explained it was a policy to keep on hold such an amount. Ok, I said. A second later he asked am I accusing him for that charge… Hmmm… I was confused. Weird question. No, I’m almost okay. He still insists I’m accusing him. Well, then yes, reasonable accusation. How can you be wrong, guys, if you are overcharged $42. But that bartender, probably manager as well, was so mean and just closed my tap basically sending me home. Out of my confusion over $50 charge for one beer. Instead of explaining a customer before you swipe a card. That $50 overcharge has never happened with me in Montauket before or any other bar in Montauk for years! I believe he thought I look young or maybe seasonal European work-and-travel student with accent, so don’t deserve respect and trust (kind of gonna run away without pay!!!). Shame on this place. Nobody ever treated me like that in local bars, even in Liar’s (RIP for that bar). The only reason people come to Montauket is for so called “best sunset in Montauk”. (if not cloudy!) This minute the small place gets packed and you have no space to easily enjoy watching and to take a pic. I strongly recommend “Navy Beach” restaurant nearby with similar sunset view and much much better service, bunch of tables and nice large beach space facing that...
