If you are looking for a place to spice up your taste buds and have a blast, look no further than Maya Café and Cantina in Fishkill Route 9W. This is not your typical Mexican restaurant, this is a fiesta of flavors and fun! From the moment you walk in, you will be greeted by the lively atmosphere and the mouthwatering aroma of authentic Mexican food. The complimentary sauce with chips is excellent, and you can choose from mild, medium, or hot depending on your preference. The menu offers a variety of dishes, from tacos and burritos to enchiladas and fajitas, all made with fresh ingredients and cooked to perfection. The service is outstanding, and our server Ozzy was very attentive and friendly. He even told us some interesting stories about Maria Sabina, the famous Mexican healer and shaman who introduced psilocybin mushrooms to the world. He also recommended some of the best drinks from the bar, which serves a variety of flavorful drinks, such as margaritas, mojitos, sangrias, and more. The restaurant is kid friendly and they have outdoor seating for those who want to enjoy the fresh air. There is also plenty of parking available, so you don't have to worry about finding a spot. The tables with colorful happy patrons get filled quickly, so get there early or make a reservation. You won't regret it! Maya Café and Cantina is more than just a restaurant, it's an experience. It's a place where you can enjoy delicious food, great drinks, and good vibes. It's a place where you can celebrate life with your friends and family. It's a place where you can have fun! So what are you waiting for? Come to Maya Café and Cantina today and see for yourself why it's the best Mexican restaurant in town!

I have been here several times a year since 2014 sitting in the bar area as service is usually quicker. It has always been a staple in our family since my daughter’s college years but this change has changed my thoughts to find a new go to spot when over that way. Today we sat in the Dining area. The service & food was good except for the young man whom a friend asked about the location of the bathroom. First he asked in English for the bathroom, then in Spanish for El Bano, then the service asked for him to speak in English… again the friend asked for the bathroom, then the men’s room. Again the server stated “English please” , I then asked “que El Bano” & the server points to the rear of the restaurant. Really! Then after our meal came the bill… there was an up-charge to use a Discover Credit charge card & an additional charge for grilled chicken in the Taco salad; which in the menu gave a choice of beef or chicken. I was so disappointed in the up-charge for the Discover Card that I deducted that cost from the tip. Not sure if the server or establishment will recognize this as purposeful or not but I felt the need to make a statement & this establishment seems to want to hit our wallets so I figured what is good for the goose is good for the gander; if they can’t keep help; the establishment should be looking at why… by the way, this was a lunch bill for 2 people!!!!

Came in for a quick bite with the kids during the week, before evening activities. The chips and salsa were very good. Ordered empanadas for one kiddo, and the shrimp tacos for myself. The empanadas were not what we were typically used to, and my son did not care for them. We are used to the larger ones with filling, and these were smaller sized empanadas. My daughter liked the shrimp from my tacos (I found the tacos okay, shrimp small), so I ordered her some shrimp (5 small ones to be exact); which we were charged a whole order of tacos for (nearly $20). For the quantity of shrimp, I would have hoped to not be charged the full cost of the taco dinner, which I was. I also ordered the guacamole to go, which was delicious with the bag of chips. For the cost (close to $100), I would say it was a little steep for what we received. The salsa and guacamole were great, and the entrees were okay.

After reading the reviews , I believed it may be a fair experience in the least. My spouse claimed she never felt like running out a place as badly as she had after the mediocre meal and service presented in this place. The quality is certainly not anything I would ever want to ingest ever again. The quantity was possibly the worst I ever experienced in a Mexican restaurant, along side the quality. The server ruined the whole dining experience by assuming the guacamole we ordered was to come with our meal and not an appetizer to eat with the chips at the table. He then assumed the margaritas we ordered were a small drink size and not the texas size drinks everyone else seemed to be enjoying. My meal was an order of 3 skirt steak tacos with rice and beans. The rice and beans were served on a dish normally used when sharing appetizers , meaning there wasn't much of it at all. I asked for 4 tacos with my meal instead of the 3 as listed on the menu , I was told it wasn't a problem. However when my tacos were bought to the table on a tray that held them in an upright position the first thing clearly noticeable is 3 tacos were filled with steak and toppings at least half through the tortilla and there is this 4th one with a bizarre amount of steak and toppings missing from the tortilla. After having to point this unacceptable unappealing serving to the server. I then proceeded to consume my tacos, prepared with a steak quality far from any skirt steak I had ever eaten and more like a quality of steak I would never want to eat again. Seriously the tortilla even had an unappealing quality. Now the children were ordered a quesadilla, and to my amazement not even that was appetizing. It was made with an unknown quality of cheese that I guess was supposed to be mozzarella however was not quite so; Furthermore my quesadilla preferably should be made with a sharp cheddar cheese and some salsa at the least. Unfortunately the only thing enjoyable was the salsa placed at the table when first walked in because the chips werent purchased to be pleasant to the taste, of which I would not want to pay the amount billed just to enjoy salsa. Sadly any good ratings given prior to mine must be ownership using false emphasis , and poor business tactics. Purchase products which represent quality and your ratings will come from...

There was a time when this was the best Mexican restaurant around. It is no longer. The past few experiences have been awful. My friend and I both ordered frozen margaritas and both of them were at least quarter of the way melted. The restaurant was not full, so it is not like they were sitting at the bar. My friends meal? He took two bites of it and couldn’t even eat anymore. I told him to send it back. But, he didn’t want to make any waves since we have both known the owner for over 30 years. My meal was definitely not as good as it used to be, either. The restaurant is not as clean as it used to be, either. Everything is sticky and smelly. It used to be the best place to go for Cinco de Mayo, as well. Even that has gone downhill. However, the owner’s sister now works there, as well. She is phony and a liar. The turnover with the waiters and waitresses is ridiculous. There are literally only two employees who I recognized that have stayed the same for many years; One being a bartender and one being a waiter. They are great. (Miguel and Rosalie) I don’t know how they do it and how they have managed to stay there that long. Luis Pinto has been wanting to retire for many years. Things have not been the same since the loss of his brother, Ruben. (RIP) or since the manager, Al, left. Unfortunately, things are going downhill for Maya Cafe and they are going downhill… FAST!! But, that’s OK because there are so many new Mexican restaurants to try out. I was a faithful and loyal customer, but no longer. I cringe when I even walk in there as nobody even knows how to smile, anymore. It’s really sad. ☹️ I can only end by saying that at least I have wonderful memories from when it was the most amazing Mexican restaurant; probably in all of Dutchess County. Unfortunately, I cannot say that anymore… At all! I will not spend my hard earned money there… Or my friend’s hard earned money on a restaurant that is pretty much run by a woman who does not know how to treat people; that being the sister. Luis is barely there anymore. My family, friends and I were loyal and faithful to Luis for over 30 years. I’m sorry to see this happening. everything used to be so beautiful and you could tell how much love and effort was put in to this establishment. Now, it’s...
