Hector Hideaway — Restaurant in Town of Hector

When 4 of us entered (group of 8), the waitress was very kind and accommodating. We told her we were a big group of 8 and were happy to sit separately. I let her know one set of parents were visiting from overseas and so we needed to check the menu. She said that’s perfectly fine and that she can recommend other spots if it didn’t work out.

When the rest of us entered, we told her we decided we’d eat at the restaurant. Her attitude suddenly changed and she said it would be at least a 30 minute wait. I tried to tell her we’d think about it but she cut me off and went to the kitchen to let them know. She told them, as if it was the biggest inconvenience, that a large group of us “were late arrivals” and asked if they can make it work.

The kitchen said there was no problem, but when she came back out, she said she can sit us down but would have to do only one check and we’d have to eat outside in the heat. When I tried to ask additional questions about seating, the check, or menu, she would immediately cut me off multiple times and say “it’s fine, it’s fine, we can seat you.” I could barely get a word in.

Her tone of voice, sudden attitude change, and condescending language made us uncomfortable and so we told her we realize this is too complicated and will look elsewhere. She then said, “you’re not going to find any other place tonight” even though she said earlier she had recommendations.

We feel that her change in attitude was a result of when we told her which country our out of town parents were from, and we refused to let any of our group be treated unfairly due to their race/ethnicity.

It’s possible she just had a bad day or was overwhelmed, but a number of us felt the sudden shift and were not comfortable with how we were treated. This review is simply our experience, but we thought we’d let others know in case something...

Very beautiful view and overall great atmosphere.

This is a nice a restaurant that is adjacent to some small cute rental homes. The staff were gracious and the facility was clean and welcoming.

The wine flights were a little more expensive than the previous two wineries that we had just visited that day so we just decided not to have any more.

We ordered the $10 “warm salty bread” and it came with 6 bite sized pieces of bread and a tomato dip and a olive dip. I think a few more pieces of bread would have better. Especially if you are sharing it. 3 bites is a little shy of what I was hoping for. The bread it’s was fairly warm but the dips were cold. I don’t know if that was intentional but when I read “warm salty bread” I envisioned a large warm and soft loaf of bread.

The food wasn’t bad. I really enjoyed the onion rings but the burger was a little bland and well-done. The fish was also a little bland, but the old bay fries weren’t bad. We still ate everything and left a tip but I don’t think I feel the need to come back since there are so many other great options around to try.

The highlight of the visit was the view by far. I really enjoyed sitting out on the top deck in the beautiful weather and looking at the great view. It was the best view of Seneca Lake out of our three stops...

My boyfriend and I wanted to love this place, but the service really ruined our experience. When we first arrived, the host was lovely and took us up to the outdoor patio. However, our when our waitress came over she was not very friendly.

When we declined to order any cocktails, she walked away without asking if we wanted anything else besides water. Then, she informed us that the pretzels we ordered as an appitizer were sold out. Absolutely no problem, but instead of bringing us a menu, she gave us a suggestion and walked away quickly. The appetizer she brought out a bread plate with “dips” for $10. The bread was very dry and the dips were all oily.

We then waited for her to take the orders of 3 other tables before taking our dinner order. The dinners were pretty good, but be careful ordering anything off the lunch menu for a dinner entrée, the portion is much smaller.

At the end of our meal, she brought our check and we paid. When she came back to collect the signed copy, she stopped in the middle of the floor and looked at the tip. Never said have a great night or anything, just made sure I tipped her and walked away.
