Fred's Delicatessen — Restaurant in Town of Hempstead

When I worked in the area I used to frequent Fred’s every morning for a breakfast sandwich and or at lunch for one of their delicious and always fresh salads. Whether it be tuna, seafood, or shrimp salad it tasted as though it was just made. Their German Potato Salad is consistently good. Sandwiches whether it be on a hero or bread was always a winner in my book. While it was at times so crowded Fred’s always had enough workers to keep the line moving, taking names for sandwiches and due to that custom they began to put your face with a name , started to say good morning or afternoon which was to me such a warm welcome. Parking at this location is great you really never have a problem even if you have to park a couple spots down its all relevant to Fred’s front door. My only reason for taking one star off is that compared to other deli’s Fred’s while having the freshest food and wonderful employee’s is in my opinion very expensive. Very loveable staff in this place and a local spot to all ages ,from older people to kids getting out of high school near by, in addition to the staff being all mature and willing to accommodate to your needs and the ability to call ahead and place an order is a check in my books for convenience for just a grab and pay situation. Really can't go wrong with your purchase as a favorite or two can be the chicken cutlet classic and the hungry man for a meal or 2 in itself can be filling for a decent while with a juice or coffee. This is my safe choice for a deli and would actually drive out of the way to pickup a sandwich after class as the prices for the same style of sandwich at other places are you expensive and for less but Fred's really is the...

This place has become a disgrace since the new owners took over. Today I had an order set for delivery for my daughter’s birthday party. 30 minutes after the end of the delivery window my wife called and they flat out told us they forgot. Eventually they show up ( more than an hour past the end of the delivery window) and the nasty delivery driver told me she was doing me a favor. Tried taking the food back when I told her I wanted to talk to the owner before I paid. Went to the deli myself and spoke to the new owner, the police, and just paid and left.
