Don't waste your time. We set out to have a nice simple lunch and wound up spending 2 and a half hours here. We had a group of 16, but they told us they could take us. We were seated almost right away after we arrived. Our waitress was slow from the start, but not awful. Getting drinks refilled took a long time. They served baskets of chips as we were waiting for our food and once they were emptied they were never refilled. After about 45 minutes of waiting for food we started to ask about it and we were told they were "putting it together" About another 10 minutes after that the manager came out and told us it would be another 10-15 minutes. Food was brought out randomly and some people were finished before other people at our table got their food. They admitted that they completely forgot about one of our orders and that they had just started it when we asked where it was. There was no communication that they were swamped or running behind and that it would be a little while longer until we asked about our food, and even then they didn't try to be accommodating and refill drinks or chips. Some members of the party got up and walked out to the porch as we were waiting and a member of the staff out there was telling a member of the staff inside over a walkie talkie that we were complaining amongst ourselves about the service. The food was not good either. French fries were undercooked. The cheesesteak was bad. As we were waiting for our food we witnessed a screaming match between members of the staff in the main bar area. It took far too long for our checks to arrive and they only took off 25-30 percent for our inconvenience, because we had asked for that. As we were paying the staff began to get short with us and was not at all apologetic. Definitely never going back and don't waste your time here either. Extremely unprofessional atmosphere and the food wasn't good. Also note that even though the word "bar" is in the name, when we were there they had a sign posted that they cannot serve...
Read moreI have been religiously returning to Cedar Rapids every year to camp and kayak and always had a great experience. However, after spending this past weekend there, I most likely will not return.
The members of the new management company running the place are rude (with the exception of the woman working the check-in station, who was mildly pleasant at best). One of the staff members in particular working the overnight shift was visibly intoxicated, extremely rude, and unprofessional (we actually found him at the bar while looking for a staff member so we could buy firewood).
In regards to firewood, the campground is not allowing campers to bring in wood purchased elsewhere, even if the wood is purchased down the street (for pest control). However, the campground then charges an astronomical amount (more than any other local vendor) for wood to its campers. With Cedar Rapids charging $10 a bundle when other local vendors charge $5, it obviously has less to do with pest control and more to do with milking their campers for more money. During a 2 night stay, we spent more than $100 on firewood, and didn't even burn a fire for an extended period of time each night.
After speaking with other campers throughout the weekend who are also return customers, it was very apparent that we were not alone in finding the new management team less than satisfactory. With Cedar Rapids having numerous local competitors and campers having many options on campgrounds, customer service and satisfaction should be of the utmost importance. For all of the reasons stated above, this is no longer the case, and as a result, this weekend will be my last, as I am sure it will be for others as well. I hope the feedback is helpful for potential...
Read moreFirst time camping. We had fun. My girls rafted. We slept in tents 😳 and I survived and I would do it again. I am not an outdoors person and I did NOT have phone service for 2 DAYS!! I was so pleasantly pleased that they had showers that were GOOD and HOT!! And CLEAN bathrooms, which I was so worried about because I thought maybe it would be, I don't know, outhouses or something lol.
They have a restaurant/bar and a little shop that had some of the random things that we needed like charcoal! We ran out...
Bugs are to be expected, and for me, I find that near the water, bugs are very attracted to light... our site was right off the river... I can deal with the bugs in the day... once I was a little tipsy lol, BUT when the lights go out... I quickly LEARNED to walk mostly in the dark, outside of the light of the firepit, just bc of my own bug fears and how much they really swarm 🥴... the first night I did yell TURN OFF THE LIGHTS... often... lol.
Because of this mini adventure I plan to add to my camping gear and go again, probably fish, and try a canoe! It was fun I needed to see my family I haven't seen them in over 2 years because of the pandemic so I was most content... if any drawback it would be the dishwashing station. It had spiderwebs and spiders and pollen everywhere, which I get because it is outdoors but maybe refresh it as a part of the daily cleaning checklist? It was just a little ironic that the cleaning station was kinda not "clean". It was a little hard for me to use and you can't use the bathroom to clean them 🤷🏾♀️, and I couldn't even get the water to turn on to save my life so there was that too. Ended up hauling hot water back and forth from...
