We went for Valentines Day dinner. It was so charming there. The little details make a difference between nice dinner and a really great evening. They had a specialized menu for the day and there were plenty of options. In this case you would get a starter, an entree and a dessert for 50.00. It was an amazing price considering the quality of the food and the atmosphere. Drinks were separate. Coffee came with the meal. The restaurant appears to be an older house that was converted to a restaurant. It was really charming. The tables were decorated with fresh carnations and a candle and when you were seated they brought you a large vintage type bottle of ice cold water for the table. It added to the special feeling . The restrooms were clean and tastefully decorated as well with two one person bathrooms, one was unisex and one was just for the ladies. When you walk in the front door you are greeted right away, your name checked off on the reservation list and seated. The atmosphere was really relaxed, partly because it wasn't one of those large noisy places but also partly because everyone there seemed happy and were enjoying themselves. When the server took our order they asked for all three of your course choices at that time, which was because of the special. They staff was attentive and courteous and our waitress was so busy but really efficient. She handled all of her tables well and other staff pitched in if the other staff were helping other customers. The atmosphere combined with the delicious food and the attentive staff made this the best meal I have had in the last few years. We will definitely...
Read moreI checked out Bistro 42 recently with some family for my birthday and was very happy I did. Let me first say that the ambiance at Bistro 42 is top-notch. Upon walking in the [oft open] door, it felt like I was teleported out of podunk Hoosick Falls and transported to a small upscale restaurant of a large city. The decor is very intentional and tasteful. French music was piped in at a nice volume, and the handful of other patrons were having spirited conversations over shared bottles of wine. The front of house manager and wait staff were very welcoming and helpfully explained the dishes we inquired about.
For an appetizer, we shared a small entree of risotto aux champignons sauvage, which is risotto with wild mushrooms, Parmesan, and white truffle oil. I'm not a risotto aficionado, but I thought this dish was positively delicious. My party also enjoyed the risotto quite a bit.
My entree was steak frites medium rare, which was grilled hanger steak with fries. It was very good. The steak was tender and flavorful, and the french fries were excellent. One of my party had the poulet confit, which I sampled and also enjoyed. It tasted a bit more flavorful than average store-bought chicken, even a bit gamey in a good sense. It was incredibly tender, almost "melt in your mouth" consistency. I recommend that dish as well.
Overall, I really enjoyed the food, beverage selection, and menu at Bistro 42 and am happy it's not far from where I reside, as I will most certainly...
Read moreBistro 42 Hoosick Falls NY Serves slow at the start. He made a top shelf from scratch margarita that was overly sour and strong. It is hard to get a margarita perfect from scratch. I have only had one even do it. I had to ask for it to be lightened up so i could drink it. He never asked if i wanted another drink. I had to ask for a water. I loved the fact that him came over and set up the table with the silverware that i needed for what i ordered. Shrimp cocktail great presentation. Sauce is different not like a cocktail sauce I have ever had. Creamy very mild cocktail sauce. I really like it just needed a little more zip to it (Horseradish) Santee potatoes great taste but a little on the saggy side. Brussels sprouts haven't changed, not a big fan but i think it could use a sauce. The steak was cooked just right. Good taste but not a lot of seasoning. Ended with Crème brûlée. I personal never had this. I don't think i will ever get it again. The sugar crust on top had a sour bitter taste. The strawberry was the best flavor in the whole dish. The whole atmosphere, presentation of the food and the professionalism of the service was top notch 4 stars. Price was $$$ but was reasonably for the times. Parking not much of any. The window needed to be cleaned, had dead flies on it. The bar table was wobbly. The little things that could be...
