Oh how the mighty have fallen, I went here for years regularly, but sure to diet change I stopped.
I couldn't believe how empty the place was, it was hard to see. We walked in and no customers were there. It was weekday afternoon and the place was a ghost town. There used to be a line on any given day especially at 1pm. So we walk up to the counter, the person can help us right away since there are no customers. I was shocked how all the pies looked, so small and sad looking (think congealed cheese but not). I was looking forward to a chicken parm or BBQ chicken slice, but they simply weren't appealing to the eye. I know they just needed to be reheated but still. We eat with our eyes first.
I opted for a Greek salad pizza slice, which was delicious, looked fresh and I absolutely loved the all feta cheese, a bit of a messy eat, but that's what I get for eating salad on a pizza crust. I wish they would have used kalamata olives instead of boring black olives, but that's a preference of mine.
I used to love this place but it simply isn't the same anymore. I likely won't be back, there are so many other places doing the same thing and the food in the case that is supposed to entice me actually turned me off.
We sat down to eat, and could have sat anywhere. For the roughly 50 minutes we were there, there were 3, maybe 4 other customers. Hopefully, for their sake, they figure out how to right the ship and fast.
Maybe pasta or chicken night is better, I don't know, but for a pizza lunch it's a...
Read moreTreated a friend for dinner last night at Mama Angelina’s Pizzeria and Restaurant. We were headed to a Star Trek convention at the Hyatt Hotel and figured we’d eat beforehand. The waitress was friendly and the atmosphere fairly pleasant. I chose for my entree the shrimp parmigiana hero, one of my goto favor, and my buddy ordered the grilled chicken panini. We were both pretty hungry and were really looking forward to some delicious, filling plates of food. When my shrimp parmigiana hero arrived I was immediately surprised how few shrimps were in my hero. It was almost all bread and sauce, maybe 6 small breaded shrimp? I’ve been eating shrimp parmigiana heroes for 45 years, mostly in Queens pizzerias and restaurants, and for the past 8 years in various places on Long Island. Never have I seen such a skimpy, disappointing shrimp hero. And if you’re thinking maybe the place was crowded and the kitchen staff was running low on shrimp, NO WAY. Besides us, there was only one other table with two people eating. All the other tables were empty. As for my friend ‘s grilled chicken panini, I was hopeful he was enjoying his meal more than me, but when I asked him, he said it was just alright. He said it didn’t have much flavor. So two swings and two misses for Mama Angelina’s Pizzeria and Restaurant. I was really hoping for a tasty meal but left quite...
Read moreTired and not trying. Okay, the bread was amazing. Fresh from the oven, crispy, great seasoning. It was the first thing brought to the table. I was excited to try the food. That passed quickly. I ordered the Chicken ala Mama, described as sauteed in white wine, lemon butter sauce with spinach and mozzarella. Comes with side salad and pasta, choice of sauce, which I ordered red. The chicken comes out, massive portion. Thin cutlets "breaded" in what turns out to be egg wash basically. The plate is a swamp of liquid. There is so much "sauce" on the plate, more like broth. Flavor: foul. The mozzarella on the chicken is store bought sliced, tasted rancid. Spinach is spinach. Mistake. So lets try the side pasta, with red sauce. Pasta is overcooked spaghetti. Red sauce is straight out of the can. Ridiculous. Can you add some salt? Seasoning? It was gross. Nothing authentic Italian here. Nana would have a stroke. Big mistake...
