Casual fun environment and great food.
UPDATE: The quality has certainly diminished since my last review. The food is losing its former charm.
During my last visit, the service was unfortunately not as I had received previously. The waitress did not check up on our table more than the (likely mandatory) two-bite check back. Basic things like water refills had to be asked for. My party has severe allergies that required asking the kitchen about a few dishes, and the waitress did not seem interested in the quality of the information that she delivered back to us. When asked about whether a dish contained a severe allergen (and incredibly common ingredient), she returned from the kitchen and reported that they did not know. This certainly alarming, and she furthermore did not recommend avoiding the dish, but instead claimed that it would probably be fine. Very odd...
Funny enough, the member of my party that had the most trouble ordering was the happiest with the food at the end of the night.
I ordered the pierogi's and kielbasa, which was not what it once was. It used to come with lots of pierogi's, thick cut kielbasa, both regular and red cabbage sauerkraut, caramelized onions and sour cream. Now, you get only standard sauerkraut (which was dry) and low quality kielbasa. The sausages were thinly cut and small, but piled high. Only four pierogi's come with the dish now, which are pre-topped with onions. The pierogi's tasted like they had been frozen at some point.
The salad was good, but the balsamic dressing was off, almost like a hybrid of balsamic and Italian dressing. The poutine is good, and is best ordered to share. A member of my party ordered the steak frites, and enjoyed the steak thoroughly. Beer was served in the can with no immediately available glass to pour into, which may or may not be an issue depending on personal preference.
Something that very much bothered me was the delivery of the food to the table. Each member of my party ordered an appetizer and an entree, with one more appetizer for the whole table. Two personal appetizers came out first, which were timely on their own. About 10 minutes later, every other dish came out. Every other appetizer, every entree, every salad, everything except the food for one member of my party, who had to wait another 5 minutes. It was not well thought out, and it made sitting there with hot food to eat awkward for the whole party.
At the end of the night, with lower quality food than anticipated and lackluster service, the check came out to well over $40 a head.
TLDR: I was not impressed by the food, the service, and the experience as a whole. I am far less interested in returning for dinner after my latest meal than I have been in the past. I am more hesitant to recommend becks TAVERN than before, though I do have my fingers crossed that I visited them on a bad night. There is still hope and potential in this place. I hope it...
Read moreWe had a great time at our first try here last year, however, our experience on 7/19/2020 was out the outset, less than stellar, but salvaged by our excellent waitress and the manager who was on duty. Our two sons were dreaming about eating here all winter.
We started out with sodas that we're mixed properly, but was eventually corrected. The three chicken schnitzel dinners we received were way under-cooked and the hollandaise sauce we ordered with our asparagus was largely chunks of scrambled egg that tasted like hollandaise sauce. My pork schnitzel was cooked perfectly. We returned the three chicken meals and my kids received their back, with even worse hollandaise sauce, just flecks of egg, really. They forgot my wife's chicken. Eventually my wife's chicken arrived and they made fresh hollandaise sauce for all of them.
After all of the corrections were made, the meals were perfect, as we had enjoyed them last year. Initially the server offered 25% off the meal and repeatedly apologized, however the manager came over and without prompting simply just offered us the meal at no cost. The server appeared surprised that we intended to stay and have desert, which was also great.
We chalked our experience to simply one isolated experience that was made right by the staff, in real time. We all appreciated that. The served received her gratuity based on what the entire meal would have cost, the manager received our thanks and appreciation for what she and the server did to make the meal right and the restaurant has repeat customers and we'll come back there...
Read moreThe worst experience ever. We've had many assorted dining experiences and NEVER experienced anything like this. We were happily celebrating a birthday and had a good recommendation for Becks. We got our drinks in a timely fashion, but it went down hill from there. After our drinks arrived, we never saw anyone for an hour. I had to go in and request a waitress for drink refills. Never a mention of our food order. Instead of the requested 3 beer refills, we got a whole table's worth of drinks we didn't want. Still no food, but the confused waitress brought us our check with the food and drinks on it. Oops. Two hours after ordering and after I went in and asked what was happening, our food started coming out. Pork schnitzel was cold, dry and generally terrible, along with the cold potatoes and cold, dry vegetables. The "Rubek" rubens were not toasted as advertised and were on hard rye bread, one lacking meat. The only good thing was the kids' chicken wings. Our waitress was continually flustered and confused. Talking to the manager was useless and she was defensive and snotty. We waited forever for a bill and I finally had to ask for it. Ended up they comped us. It was an overall terrible experience and all we wanted to have was a nice birthday dinner. WE WILL NOT RETURN OR...
