This place has the worst pizza, which is ironic considering its name. I never would have expected a restaurant called “House of Pizza” to serve the disappointment that was served to my boyfriend and I when we ate here yesterday. This was our first time eating here and our last.
TL;DR: The pizza here is the worst. It is tasteless, overpriced, and is likely not fresh. You’re better off with frozen pizza from the grocery store next door or ordering from Dominoes. The wait staff is nice, but the management is awful and doesn’t care about customer service or satisfaction.
We ordered their garlic bread sticks with sauce and their Hawaiian specialty pizza. The bread sticks were great and so was the sauce they served it with, but that was when the good times ended. When the pizza was finally served I immediately was concerned because it didn’t look right. The pizzas they have here are an odd, shallow-dish pie-like shape with a strange, hard, and tasteless crust piled high with excessive toppings. Despite the strangeness this wouldn’t be an issue if the pizza had redeeming taste, but it did not.
Cardboard would best describe the taste of it. The crunchy, cardboard-like texture and blandness of the crust and dough was disgusting, and even worse and more confusing was the lack of taste in the sauce, cheese, AND the ham and pineapple topping. Everything was painfully bland and lacked any flavor and the ratio between the sauce, cheese and toppings were poor because there was barely any of the bland sauce compared to the massive amount of pineapple and ham they piled on. I’ve eaten a variety of pizzas from frozen pre-made pizzas at the grocery store to chain-pizzas like dominos or pizza-hut and even phenomenal pizza from New York City and I’ve never had a pizza as bad as this one. Even pizza from Little Caesars is better.
We initially didn’t make a complaint to our waitress about it because we didn’t want to make a fuss. Plus, my boyfriend forced himself to eat half of it due to his hunger at the time, but he didn’t like it either. I personally couldn’t force myself to eat another slice. Honestly in my opinion judging by the awful texture and lack of taste it seemed like the cooks used disgusting frozen, pre-made dough and frozen ingredients. None of it tasted fresh or seasoned.
We ended up telling the waitress about it and we weren’t expecting any compensation at this point because my boyfriend had forced himself to eat half of it, but we thought they should at least know there was a major problem with the pizza. She oddly became immediately defensive and said “we never get any complaints about our pizza. Is this your first time having our pizza?” The latter is irrelevant since the pizza tasted like trash anyway, but her first statement I immediately identified as a lie considering the awful food we were served and her odd defensiveness. She didn’t even bother tasting it herself and probably for a good reason.
Either the cook had a bad night, or people don’t bother complaining once they taste the awful pizza and they just don’t order again; it could also be that the people in this area just don’t know what a good pizza is supposed to taste like. I find the positive reviews for the pizza specifically to be flummoxing. The thing is that there are other options in the area that are far superior – even the Dominoes in Gloversville. Frankly this was the worst pizza I’ve ever had and it was definitely overpriced. The manager didn’t even bother to come out to speak to us about it; instead the waitress offered us a dessert, but we declined considering how bad the pizza was. We weren’t expecting monetary satisfaction since he ate half of it, but some basic customer-service in acknowledging our complaint would have been nice. Clearly the management doesn’t care about customers or their satisfaction. Regardless we definitely will not be coming back and will be sure not to recommend this...
Read moreI want to love this place. The food is fantastic but it ends there. I don’t understand why they do things the way that they do. They are the only restaurant I’ve been to that doesn’t allow wait staff to collect payment, so you have to stand in usually a pretty long line to pay at a counter. This causes congregations of people waiting to pay the bill which isn’t something that should be happening, especially when we were in the height of Covid. Then if you want to order pickup you have to go to a drive thru window. The line is always super long and you have to wait well past the time estimate they gave you. Even when the line is short you are stuck at least 20 minutes, I can’t imagine how long people wait when it’s all the way across the parking lot. I don’t understand the logic behind it, if someone comes too early and their food isn’t ready what is the outcome? Sit there and hold up the line or get sent to the back and wait half an hour to make it back to the front? Every other restaurant just has a counter or designated area inside to pick up your order, or you can go to the counter and ask for your order. Similar places allow you to park somewhere and your food is brought out to you, surely with the plentiful parking space this wouldn’t be hard to do. Collect the customers car information and you’re all set. This was mass adopted during Covid by almost any restaurant you can think of. There are so many better options than causing a 1/4 mile long line in a parking lot that has more than one other store. In this era it is common practice to offer services like this and plenty of small business have adapted to it. I think they would be near perfect if they managed their processes a little more...
Read moreFirst time dining inside. Arrived about 4:30 on a Tuesday. There weren't to many people there when we arrived. There was plenty of seating(booths). Place is bigger than it looks👍. We noticed it started to fill up very fast and that's a good sign. Waitress Cindy was phenomenal! She was at our table within a few minutes to get drink and appetizer order. She was back a couple minutes later with the drinks and took our main dish order. Appetizer was at the table in about 5-7 min. Mozzarella sticks, best I've ever had and the marinara sauce was equally delicious 👍. About 10 min later my salad and a couple warm buns with butter arrived. (Buns unexpected 👍) About another 10-15 min the main dishes arrive. I got the steak tips with mashed potatoes and salad. My wife got the Italian combo . Both dishes were a tad on the high side for price. Although after experiencing the atmosphere, the unexpected buns, the larger than expected salad and the incredibly tasty main courses and the mozzarella sticks and how full we both were, WELL worth the cost! This was our 31st anniversary and we couldn't have picked a better place. The Name of the restaurant is a little understated. Thank you for a great dinner,...
