Note: I've been a Yelp reviewer for years and decided in order to help out my community who is not on Yelp that I'd copy & paste those reviews to Google. Now, read on:
There are no half-stars in Yelp, but this is probably more of a 3 1/2 for me than a four, but it's Christmastime and I'm generous.
I've been to NYBP for the Silent Disco and the Dueling Pianos. Fun events. Maybe a little more crowded than I'd like in a Covid world, but I attended these events pre-pandemic and the crowds weren't as scary then as they may be now. When you go to an event like that, you expect laughter and loud talking and probably going home with a bit of a sore throat after yelling over the crowd all night.
My husband and I went for an early dinner this week. It was before 5pm on a Monday night. The place was more crowded than we had expected (yay for popular restaurants!), but we were still able to find a decent parking spot (yay for all that great parking at NYBP!). However, my watch warned me no fewer than three times that the noise decibels were high enough to damage my hearing. My husband pulled out his noise dosimeter (cuz that's the kind of guy he is) and read the noise levels consistently at 87-92. It was really hard to keep a conversation going.
But now let me get on with the rest of my review for you whippersnappers.
The food was pretty good. I have never had a bad meal here, but still haven't been wowed. This visit, my husband had a burger that he really enjoyed. That sucker was huge and fully stacked! He also enjoyed his fries. I had the crustless chicken pot pie. The creamy chicken part was really good, but I was not a fan of the flaky crust. Don't get me wrong; I love a good flaky crust! The flavor of this one just wasn't to my liking. You might love it, though! Our server was really great about refills and being attentive to us even though there were quite a few full tables that night.
In the past, I ordered the wedge salad. I love a great wedge salad, but I'm not a blue cheese girl. They had no problem substituting the ranch, but they don't have any options for cheese that were to my liking. I admit, though, I am picky about my cheese. I just don't enjoy a pungent cheese. They offered gorgonzola instead of blue cheese, and while I love a gorgonzola in a fondue, I'm not a fan of gorgonzola crumbles on my wedge. Basically, I wanted shredded American or cheddar. They didn't have either and that's really okay. I know that wedge is fantastic to anyone who loves the soft, pungent cheese.
When my brother and sister-in-law were in town from California, I really loved bringing them to NYBP to sample a flight. I've never been a big beer drinker, but my brother owns a microbrewery out west and I knew he'd really enjoy the experience. This is where my brother told me, "You should try a sour; I'll bet you'd love it." He was right. Guess what, Guys? I am a beer drinker! But sours only, please. Anyway, at that time of day - shortly after opening for the day - the bar was quiet and we could hear one another really well. That's the time of day to go if, like me, you want to have a conversation with the people...
Read moreWent there for some drinks and some food. We were REPULSED by the bill that we received(pictured below). We never have a problem with the bill since NYBP has opened and over the years have come to know the staff so we admittingly very rarely check the bill because it's always right.
We should have checked the bill since these prices were absolutely ridiculous and outrageous. Not including the drinks were rung up wrong costing us A LOT of money. We paid for everything this night as our team did well.
The food received 1 star as if refers to the drinks only. Our server was great and it seemed like it was going well until the bill came.
The place was busy and our server did not come back to take our payment so when we tried to explain and ask "this is not what we ordered", the other server had no idea. We had to head home to the sitter, as well as our friends, so we left it until today.
The receipt contained the following drinks(keep in mind all these were served in pint size glasses except the martini):
2 Bacardi Double =$28.00 (we ordered 2 rum and cokes-NOT doubles, we ordered singles. All we tasted was coke and we were charged for doubles and the use of Bacardi)
Well Gin and Tonic Double=$10.00(Again, NEVER ordered a double but were charged.
Hendricks Martini=$18.00 (yes we ordered this but have NEVER paid this amount for this drink before. The whiskey and wine bars in the area that we frequent do not even charge this much. This is a ridiculous upcharge)
We are hoping that we will receive a refund by management for the overcharges we incurred for the rum and cokes as well as the gin and tonic to rectify this ordeal. NYBP is great, and as we stated , we enjoy coming here but if we wanted doubles of something we would have ordered them and we don't appreciate being charged for things we did not order.
We could have dine and dashed but this is not our style and do not condone this behavior if people do this.
Again, we are hoping that we will receive a refund by management for the overcharges we incurred for the rum and cokes as well as the gin and tonic to rectify this ordeal. This is not a way to do business-even if inflation is through the roof.
ALWAYS CHECK YOUR RECEIPTS!
*Update- received a $20 GC apparently from management. We expressed that we'd rather have our money back in our bank account on here and when we private messaged them as $20 does not even cover the overcharges.
Note to management- if you want to properly rectify a service problem, either do what the customer asks or give them a GC that reflects the proper amount and includes the hassle.
This was a work team event that we paid for and therfore a right-off. Which is why we asked for an itemized receipt and a refund back into our account. We even explained this to our server. Now we have a bigger problem because we are receiving no refund for the...
Read moreFirst time here and when you go in its so beautiful. Definitely a social atmosphere. I went with my grandparents and our waitress was Anthony! Shoutout to Anthony! He had excellent customer service skills. Treated us very kindly, gave us time to order, etc. We didn't even have to ask for our refills either. He saw and then brought us our refills.
Our food was absolutely incredible. I had the Italy plate I think it's called or Italian plate . It was a nice fettuccine with chicken on top and a sidw of bread. My grandfather had the yacht sandwiches which kinda looks like a cool fort made of fries and sandwich and my grandma had the Jamaican BBQ sandwich which did have a little kick to it.
The Jamaican bbq sandwich came with sweet potato fries with some creamy sauce reminded me of carrot cake icing tbh. The sandwich was good . Good amount of sauce and seasoning from within.
The yacht had perfectly seasoned fries and the sandwich was of turkey, Applewood bacon, tomato, and this aioli. I've never had aioli before definitely adds to the sandwich mwah!
My fettuccine was wholesome and filling. Perfect amount of sauce and noodle ratio is great! You really do need to swirl your fork in it to it. What a wonderful experience with that in Italiano style lol. Bread was decent . Chicken was good.
Last but not least we shared the cookie skillet with vanilla ice cream and chocolate drizzle. The cookie was so soft and warm and the chocolate chips inside were melting. The ice cream paired well with it. We all really enjoyed it and it's the best cookie skillet we've ever had hands down!
Thank you guys for this wonderful experience. Will definitely come back in the future when...
