Used to love this place, it's been a while since we've come here with covid and life in general. I moved so don't get to Macedon often. Unless I have to go that way, to go the city, or there is something I need or want over that way. So, anyways decided to go there for dinner with the family. The kiddos got typical kid friendly food. That's were the good stops. I got their Shepard's pie it is my go to here I love it...while not anymore. It came to the table in a crock with a layer of greasy cheese baked on. The inside of the bowl was a scoop of garlic mashed potatoes and what can be described as soulless flavorless slop of wannabee Shepard's pie. It was more a soup with a scoop of mashed potatoes. Made with what I'm assuming to be enough garlic they hoped, by adding it to the mess I was trying to eat, that it would flavor the whole dish. The ground beef was so dry in the soup that it had a gritty grainy texture. Instead of fresh veggies they used frozen flavorless blend most likely the box truck (Sysco, us foods etc.) Frozen peas carrots and corn blend to be the veggies. Needless to say I sent it back, bland tasteless sad really. Shepard's pie is supposed to have a broth/ thick stew consistency with mashed potatoes baked on with some cheese on top nicely crisped. So I ordered a bacon Bleu burger. I ordered it medium. Came out nice and quick, tasty but overcooked. My wifes food was a meatball sub. The meatballs were spongy and flavorless. They tasted as if they were boiled and the flavor they one time had washed out by boiling them. If they weren't boiled they at least were reheated via a microwave or quick dunk in boiling water then dried out on a sizzle platter with a drop of sauce and cheese under a broiler. That being said the service was good the waitress was polite and refilled our drinks before asking. They even took $5 off the bill for the bad experience, which I wasn't expecting and didn't ask for. I don't know if it's a fluke or regularly like this there now. I'm hesitant to give it another go down the...
Read moreFlaherty's is a local (Perinton/Macedon) staple for dining out. On Fridays and Saturdays around dinner time this place is happening/slammed (come prepared to wait, unless you call ahead and make reservations). Patrons from all walks of life and can be seen enjoying a night out, making for amusing people watching to say the least. This is a very family friendly space, appropriate for almost any age and party size. Prices seem fair for the portions you receive.
The menu is large enough that large groups can safely eat here, there is a dish for almost any eater's preference. If you're visiting on a Friday night, do yourself a favor and purchase a cup/bowl of the lobster bisque. If you're are going to share, I recommend the bowl. The rest of the food menu is pretty typical bar fare, Italian and a few traditional Irish dishes. Often I find myself bouncing around the menu, while nothing I have order is really bad, I can't say anything really stands out as a favorite to me (besides the lobster bisque). Some items we've order have been a bit bland, but for the most part acceptable.
The bar's craft tap selection is quite nice. The beer rotation is pretty steady and appealing to almost any beer drinker.
The building itself has been nicely updated and expanded over the past few years. The bar area has been greatly improved. Recently new dining area has also been added on recently and the outside seating now has a fresh new look and appears to be just waiting for the Rochester weather to change into spring. Everything appears clean and service is always...
Read moreThis is a comparison between Flags in Webster vs. Flags in Macedon with regard to their wings. I much prefer the Macedon location. First off, in Webster you have a choice between 10 or 15 wings. Idk about you but a dozen is a perfect share count and that's what you can order in Macedon. Secondly, there is a definite difference between medium in Webster vs medium in Macedon. In Macedon, the wings are perfectly crispy and have a very nice coating of sauce. In Webster, I guess they like to cut back on expenses, and one way they apparently do that is by cutting back on hot sauce. Theirs were barely coated. Next, was the veggies. Both places offer nice and fresh celery, but in Webster you are given fewer and smaller pieces. C'mon. Just c'mon! Lastly, I'd just say be sure and count your wings before digging in. Webster location gave us 9 at first. They corrected their mistake but...again. C'mon, guys. Lastly, the Macedon location is newer, cleaner, and has more space. I want Webster to up their game. I like the place. Free popcorn is a nice thing and it seems more old pub-ish. But Webster is getting kinda uppity and it's losing it's genuine hometown feel, which I think is a desirable thing when you are in the business of selling chicken wings during sporting events. And from what I am hearing about Bar Bill down the street, Flags in Webster has got something to worry about. But. I'll save that for a...
