Woody's Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Town of Merton

I have had over 20 years of experience as a chef as well as extensive restaurant management. As such I can say that this is not the way I would have handled the following problem!

I was at Woody's Bar and Grill (Hartland / North Lake, WI) on 01/14/2023. The Homemade chips were fried too long which made them as hard as bricks. I asked for them to be replaced with fresh chips that were not overcooked. My request was ignored and I was told that they could no do that as they had too many already made ahead that they did not want to waste. I then tried to eat what I had but that was a huge mistake. The chips were so hard that when I tried to chew them I heard a cracking sound and it felt like my crown was now loose.

I later found out that the tooth was cracked below the gum line and required me to have it surgically removed. I was told I would also need to replace it with an implant!

When I informed the manager (Tina) that I had broken my tooth on the food and requested to talk with the owner she responded (with a condescending tone) saying she was aware of the situation and would tell the owner when he gets back in town. It took 6 weeks and several calls to finally get the owner (Joe) to respond . When he finally did he told me that he was not responsible for my rotten tooth! He did not even request to see the tooth or ask what I wanted him to do about the situation! To be clear the tooth was not rotten in fact my dentist was surprised that that tooth broke as it had a gold crown and did not have any tooth decay!

To this day the owner refuses to even discuss paying for part of the cost that my insurance will not cover. At the very least he could say he was sorry that it happened and he will correct the problem in the cooking process!

In my opinion the the manager was condescending and the owner was rude.

I have lived in the area for 35 years and before this owner took over I was a regular customer twice a week but I will never return again. I also know that the local residents that I have talked with will never eat...

Consider what the review is for - it’s a bar and grill. It is in my opinion a 5 star bar and grill.

The food is exactly what it should be - high quality ingredients, great tasting options, served hot. Decent beer selections. It’s not a big place so there are limited places to hang out while waiting for one of the few tables. There are some great burger choices, with a few distinctive combinations. Cheese curds were very good and were melty as they should be.

Wow!! I cannot say enough about our amazing experience at this gem of a place. From the time we walked in and greeted with amazing customer service and “Johnny on the spot” with our cocktails to our delicious “disco in my mouth” food creations by new owner chef extraordinaire Keith. Our server was top notch fantastic! I can’t say enough about the quality the experience the food the drinks and the all around vibe!! Tina made sure our night was what we wanted with friends!!
