Tl;dr. The WORST service we have ever had at a restaurant. Left my birthday dinner hungry because 1 hour and 15 minutes after ordering food our waitress only brought us a cup of soup, which she only remembered because we cancelled our salad. We believe our waitress forgot about us.
My husband made reservations for Friday night at 6:45. In the reservation he noted that we were celebrating my birthday. We arrived on time and were told our table wasn’t ready for another 10-15 minutes. No big deal, we went to the bar for a round of drinks. Before we could even order our drinks, we were told that they were mistaken, and our table on the patio actually was ready. Great! We were seated, and quickly ordered our drinks. By the time our waitress came back with our cocktails we were ready to order. We knew what we wanted so we put in our full order-a soup, the summer salad, and two entrees.
From there everything went downhill. Our soup and salad never came. Our drinks ran empty so my husband went to the bar to order our second round, since our waitress never came back to check on us or bring our first courses. Finally, 35-40 minutes after ordering I called our waitress over after she finished with a neighboring table and told her to cancel our salad, as it would come too close to our main entrees now. She insisted that it was coming right out in a few minutes. I still maintained that it had taken too long and we no longer wanted it. After cancelling the salad, she was quick to return with the clam chowder soup, but it still took about 30 minutes longer than it should have. My husband finished the soup and we realized that we were approaching an hour since we ordered, and about 15 minutes since our waitress brought the soup. Two neighboring tables with the same waitress were waiting about 15-20 minutes for their bill. We were all looking at each other like, “where IS our waitress?” She had been MIA for about 20 minutes. She finally came and brought the two other tables their bills. As she walked by she told us our entrees would be out in 2 minutes. Well, we gave it another 10 minutes, and then we gave up and left. I cannot review the food. It was such a disappointment to leave my birthday dinner hungry. My husband and I have both worked in food service. We have patience, and understanding for how hard the staff is working. We both agree this was by far the worst service we have ever had. We felt completely ignored by our waitress, which is totally unacceptable in any restaurant, but especially a restaurant that has $40-50 entrees…
Also worth noting that our waitress seemed to want to throw other staff under the bus. When we ordered our first drinks she said the bartender was “running behind”, but our drinks came out fast. When my husband went up to order our second round because our waitress was nowhere to be found, the bartender was quick and attentive. He made an excellent espresso martini!
When we cancelled our salad was not out 40 minutes after ordering, she threw the kitchen staff under the bus. To us, it looked like all the other tables on the patio with different waitresses were getting their food in a reasonable...
Read moreWe had a delightful and delicious meal at Sapalta to celebrate our 20th anniversary. A modest disappointment was trying to get a table for two outdoors — no option to do so when we made our reservation, so we sat inside at a large window facing the lake, after we asked the host to sit outside. We noted that a table for two sat vacant outside during our entire visit, and chalked it up to distributing workload on the waitstaff — only a minor disappointment.
Our server, Rachel, was lovely - charming and gracious, with great recommendations at hand for the menu. We tried four different cocktails during the evening, all excellent. The raspberry whiskey fizz was the deepest/darkest of them all, and had plenty of cranberry, less raspberry, notes to us, but we had no trouble finishing it, at all, if you catch my meaning.
The Sheldrake Moon - a local baked brie - was an excellent appetizer. We didn't finish all the bread that came with it, pacing ourselves in anticipation of the main course. Finished all the cheese, of course - didn't have to twist our arms.
She had the scallops with pesto and risotto, the gnocchi and meatballs for me — both delicious, and my wife noted "I could eat this every day for the rest of my life." Beautifully done on both. Portions were appropriate human-sized plates of food, not an extravaganza tempting us to gorge. We appreciate this. Some may note "small portions," we prefer to see it as "this is what we should be eating - to our health!"
Desserts were a sage crepe with raspberry cream and a layered ganache-laden cake with salted caramel a la mode.... we've always been taught licking your plates is uncouth, but we were tempted.
Plum Point is nicely tucked away, just a bit off the beaten track, but a charming destination for a meal as a couple or with friends at Sapalta. Suffice it to say...
Read moreIf you are thinking of going here based on the good reviews, DON’T. Sometime not too long ago their whole kitchen staff, chef included, left and now the food is inedible. I wish we knew this before taking our entire family!! We went on Friday for what we expected to be a nice dinner, and only 2 out of 9 of us liked their meal. I am not exaggerating when I say the cauliflower steak with couscous and gremolade was the worst thing I’ve ever been served at a restaurant. I truly could not believe they would serve that to anyone. It was like eating a whole plate of raw garlic. And I love garlic, but this was disgusting. The cauliflower wasn’t seasoned at all, everything was dry…my sister ordered the chicken dish which cost over $30 and was served the TINIEST piece of chicken. The waiter said nothing when he gave it to her, but then when he came around again she asked about it, at which point he said “oh yeah, the chef is making you another piece right now” …?? Which was very strange, and then the second piece of chicken was only slightly bigger and it was dry. My brother ordered the ribeye medium rare and it was served almost entirely well done. We complained and they said they could give us a free dessert…😒 The only people who liked their meals were the kids, who ordered chicken tenders and fries (hard to mess that up…) and my Dad, who ordered gnocchi in tomato sauce (also hard to mess up, but I wouldn’t put it past this place). We only found out that the whole kitchen staff and chef had changed when we got back to our bed and breakfast and they asked where we went to dinner, and we told them how disappointed we were. DON’T GO HERE!! Overpriced, horrible...
