I'm Italian & Greek, my Greek grandmother had her own garden & was an amazing cook. I've made Moussaka Avgolemono soup, Butter cookies with sesame seeds on top, Baklava & so much more! I have tried this place several time's & every single time I bought something it was gross! First of all Moussaka DOES NOT look or TASTE like this! It's not even made right. The eggplant was so greasy, no meat (usually beef or lamb) & white cream sauce that goes on top. I took one bite of their "Moussaka" & I spit it in the garbage! My son said cant be that bad. I said here, try a bite! He made a face & said i cant eat that & spit it out! I've had their Baklava before . . Omg, nasty! He uses his own "syrup" instead of HONEY & pistachio nuts instead of walnuts. The "syrup" is what ruins it. You use honey!!! The Chicken Buffalo pizza was burnt & slightly undercooked in the middle. My son loves HOT stuff, me not so much. He took one bite & spit his out too bc it was too hot & greasy for his taste! I've tried a few time's but each time disappointed & a waste of money! I spent $33 & it wasn't worth one cent. It's all in the garbage! That what I think of their food. . Garbage! And that's exactly where it's going, in the garbage! I wasted $33 & NEVER...
Read moreI really hate leaving bad reviews but I was hoping all the good comments were not written by robots but it seems that they were. I've traveled to Spain and India so ive eaten plenty of Mediterranean inspired cuisine.
This spot is kind of like one of those down state gas station spots and terms of their menu. My first request was a kebab which i was told would be a 30 mins even though I was the only person there and all the lights were off in the kitchen so I assume they had to turn on the grills and stuff.
So I ordered the gyro thinking that it would be a safe bet but the meat smells like it's starting to go rancid and it was definitely microwaved so on top of being kind of slimy and past expiration, it's dry and rubbery and they put it on top of all the vegetables and it looks really unappealing and sloppy.
Sorry for the nad review, i know we are in rural Upstate NY but you should still have pride in the food that you make especially if it is representing your culture. I would just stick with Cap Region Mediterranean places. The atmosphere and the food just wasn't my cup of tea unfortunately. I'm going to throw this gyro out and just go make a dinner at home...
Read moreMoving here from NYC, I was blown away with how AMAZING this food is!
The gyros were on point - not too heavy on the dill and the meat had a perfect balance of seasoning - and all was fresh.
The moussaka - and I am one to turn up a nose at eggplant - was truly wonderful. Next time I will order my own instead of eating half of my friend’s.
And the Baklava!!! The words to describe... that was Hands Down the singular best I have EVER had. Seriously. Ever. Not too sweet. Not too much honey. Not overwhelming nuts (was that pistachio I tasted?) Just a perfect mix, and then a final filo layer to cap it off - the perfect buttery and flaky crunch. Get a pound. For yourself.
I may now just live here.
Stop off in Fort Plain, if Only...
