Authentic Mexican food as good as any anywhere. Especially fantastic is their pozole (traditional, Mexican soup.) It is so flavorful that the next day all I could think about was finishing the generous portion I had been given the day before. It is made from scratch the traditional way. The corn flavor is pronounced, and the broth is so flavorful I feared it was full of beef fat, but I concluded that they skim it off as none appeared the next day in the fridge at the top of the broth . The beef is delicious and generous in quantity. I go to a lot of Mexican restaurants in Wisconsin. (every chance I get I go to a new one to test them out) I usually have their chicken enchiladas, tamale, y chile relleno. All three have been excellent here at Nachos. (although my personal preference is for less meat and more masa in the tamale.) Their mole sauce is very good. Mexican music is playing which accentuates the cultural ambience. The servers all speak Spanish as well as English and are very well trained, including standing by the kitchen, looking out over the dining room to attend to anyone who might have an issue. Excellent service we are very lucky to have a place like this in Minocqua. The photo is of the pozole, the very professional and attentive server, explained that it is often eaten with a tortilla, bite a piece off the tortilla and then add a spoonful of soup along with the the added extras in the little bowl, including diced...
Read moreFirst time here and I was happy we stopped.
It was busy when we stopped but we were able to get a table right away.
Fresh nacho chips and salsa were provided as soon as we were seated. Our server made sure we had drinks and then left us to peruse the menu.
Menu: Excellent selection of Mexican dishes with beef, chicken, pork, or shrimp/fish. They also offer "monster" portion options. These are what I would call "contest sized meals".
Portions were better than expected, I feel like I got my money worth.
Quality: The kitchen staff clearly take pride in what they prepare. It was served fresh and hot, plated very nicely and served to our table with a smile. I had a steak burrito and the steak was juicy and tender. I find that steak strips can be hit or miss at some Mexican restaurants. Here it was a home run!
Margaritas were flavorful and just right. Next time I'll try the "flight" so that I can sample all the flavors.
We will be back for sure!
*I suggest bringing cash for your meal. They do accept cards, but there is an additional service charge for that. Cash...
Read moreWe’ve eaten at the location in Rhinelander, and it was delicious. However, the Minocqua location is not great.
Positives: rice, beans, pork carnitas, tomatillo salsa, fried jalapeños and chips are good.
Negatives: Molcajete is absolutely terrible, it contains plain pork sausage, tough steak, tough chicken and literally 3 shrimp and costs almost $23. We’ve had a lot of Molcajete and this one was the worst we have ever eaten by far. Do not pay the $2 charge for a side of cheese dip with your meal, it’s the tiniest little 1-2 oz cup of cheese sauce. If you want cheese sauce, just order queso from the appetizer menu. While I listed the pork carnitas in the positives, they come with no sauce at all. Fortunately, we had ordered a container of the tomatillo salsa to pour over the top.
At the end of the day, it was terribly disappointing and some things were genuinely overpriced. I am hoping this was just an “off” night for them, because we could really use a good Mexican...
