We really wanted to live this place. We rarely complain, being that my wife and I used to work in the service industry. This place needs to train the staff. Allow me to explain... Upon arriving, there's a big sign out by the patio that reads " please wait for host to be seated." We waited about 10 minutes to never be greeted. We went inside and talked to the host. She said to wait outside and someone will help. We went back outside and waited another 15 minutes to again never be greeted. At this point, I was a little frustrated. I went back inside, and a different host had said we need to wait for a seat to open, but it was an hour wait. So while we waited close to 40 minutes outside by the sign, at least 5-6 more families were sat outside on the patio. Very frustrating. The host didn't ask if I wanted to wait, I had to asked her twice if there was a waiting list. She said "sure, I'll tlpuy your name down." Talk about making people feel like an inconvenience.
Finally, we were sat outside. If it wasn't for us having our puppy with us, we would have left by now. I don't want to go into every detail, but it took over an hour for food. The fried walleye was dry, and my wife only got one lemon wedge for a huge piwve of fish. The waiter forgot to bring my margarita, so that took 43 minutes (we were actually timing things at this point) and waters were never filled. Horrible dining experience.
If it wasn't for the ambiance, atmosphere (fantastic Bayside atmosphere), and the fact that it's dog friendly, we would of given it only 1 star. But that wouldn't be fair considering the total package. Please train your staff. When you have a large patio, you need to be sure paying customers are greeted, especially when you have a sign outside saying to wait. Traing your wait staff to be attentive when we order things. That's primarily your #1 job. We hope to be back for a different experience, but not...
Read moreThere were a lot of ups and downs with our visit. I will describe it all here. First of all the fish boil was excellent. The presentation and the history of fishboils in door county was real nice. The portion size was generous and the butter sauce was perfect. The fish itself was overcooked, but still very flavorful. If you don't like it on the tough side, you may not want to come here. I enjoyed it very much. The door county cherry pie with ice cream was excellent. I did find a pit in a cherry and almost choked on it. Tartness and flavor was excellent! We called ahead for reservations and there was a lot of confusion. We were told that there would be ribs and chicken if we didn't want fish. When we arrived, they didn't even serve either one. My girlfriend was extremely disappointed because she wanted the chicken and the fish fry vegetables. We were told that they would allow us to order just the vegetables and pie without the fish, but that they never make extras no matter what. I think that is a bad business practice. Anyway, the wrap she ordered came out and it was good, she loved the chips, but they still didn't give her the vegetables. There was also a musician playing country covers so loudly that we had to go outside. It feels like a bar, that feeling is really disappointing. Things were also very much in need of cleaning inside. The waitress, though she made mistakes, was excellently nice and tried to help. In the end, we didn't get what we wanted, but we were mostly satisfied with everything else. I may come back, but it's unlikely they will be my first choice. I won't leave them a three star, but I'm leaving them a four star review out of kindness here. Like I said, mistakes were made all over the place. It's up to you, you might love it. If I did come back, it'd be for...
Read moreMade reservations (14) for their Fish Boil with some choosing to order off menu instead. Will not be back. It was a 4 out of 10 as a Door County Fish Boil. Not well performed by the cook. Didn’t narrate or explain the event and it’s history. Didn’t really engage the crowd. They served 2 small cod pieces instead of local whitefish. (And whitefish is not oily since they boil off any oils!). Portions were small. And who eats 2 whole onions along with their 3 small red potatoes and 3 carrot pieces? Pie and ice cream dessert was a nice touch. Fish boil area had too many non fish boil eaters surrounding the pot seeing what was going on and keeping the fish boil meal people away. That’s a big part of the fish boil experience. Docking not adequate for any boat over 18 feet. Maybe space for 2 or 3. Many many PWC jet skis at dock. Place is more for the younger bar and grill crowd. July 2nd band was poor. Singer sang off key and not on tune. Band didn’t really match or follow him. Music was of 80’s big hair band songs. They must think that higher volume makes for a better quality? Dinner crowd was primarily the over 50 set. The bar crowd was the 20 something type. It’s a bar food place. Parking tight with the resorters, campers, bar crowd and then diners. Not coming back here. Too many better choices elsewhere in the immediate area. I tried to order a Tom Collins since it’s a summer drink. The waitress didn’t know what it was and asked me to tell her how to make one! Bar tender must not have known either. It was bad and without a cherry. Guess they serve only basic...
