Once upon a time, a truly great small cafe for excellent Latin/Caribean food in New Windsor, was the go-to place for consistently great tasting food and service, and at a good price. Now, Mina's, has not only changed ownership several times, but the food has also packed-up and left the establishment for a better home. God only knows where. With the current abundance of great Central and South American eateries in the Newburgh-New Windsor area, one has to wonder how this place even stays in business. The servers are young ladies with no experience waiting on tables, especially when they do not write things down; often committing things to memory. Good luck getting what you ordered, especially after waiting 45 minutes for food. Even if you do, the food tastes like it had been prepared during the Covid era lock down, when it is assumed by the establishment that most of us have lost our sense of taste as a result having been infect.
Our second to last time was a desparate attempt to recconnect with Mina's glory days, and we hoped that second chances can turn an experience around, but, no such luck. How we misstepped again is beyond any explanation. But se la vie. BUT, wait!! ... If soupy, tastless slop across the menu is your thing, and watching young waitress nymphs who's only main preoccupation is to dance around the plating area vying for the equally handsome young cook's attention, well then hey, they get four stars for entertainment. Minas, I dub...
Read moreI went to Mina's for the first time in hope to have delicious food and a new local spot to go to. For starters I pulled in to a completely empty parking lot (red flag). I proceeded in because I was craving some authentic Spanish food. I didn't check reviews beforehand btw. When you walk in the resteraunt is immaculate and the staff are very welcoming. Music is good but strangely there was no smell or aroma of food which was odd.
I ordered the lunch special Chicken stew with black beans and yellow rice with a beef and chicken empanada. I was the only price was the only customer. 12 dollars for everything which is fair. I rushed home to share with my boyfriend and was surprised to not see black beans instead just red :(.
The rice was tasteless and the chicken stew lacked flavor. The chicken in the stew was a bit dry and was not soft like traditional chicken stew should be. My bf is comes Spanish backround so he was expecting very good food. The empanadas were very dry ... I was shocked and disappointed.
I gave a two star because this place is very clean, friendly, and it has a good vibe. The only issue which is major, was food wasn't good. I now have to search for a new spot... Any suggestions leave me...
Read moreSaturday April 13th. My birthday Love to eat there with my mom. I’m regular customer there
Waitress came twice to state my last dinner was short by 61.00 dollars And to check my statement. When the receipt was reviewed it was signed by Walter. Which of course was not my dinner expense.
Our regular waitress was not friendly as she usually is. Come to find out she was the waitress that processed Mr Walters credit card expense incorrectly but sent another waitress to confront us with this situation
The same waitress came again insisting this was our expense. U have to be kidding me. I was so upset. I stated again do I look like Walter. End result we stayed because of mom. Again very upset I did not enjoy my meal. The waitress who processed the debit card error treated us cold putting the plates on the table and walking away. The staff is unprofessional. My mother has a kind soul and for her to notice. Wow. I was very heated I will never go there again. I will make sure to inform anyone I meet of my experience there and suggest never go there To Mina at the New Windsor location
Thank you Minas for making my birthday...
