This was a lunch like no other. Every inch of space in the luxurious lodge is awash with character and sumptuous, welcoming design. Stepping into a tight foyer, you find a mosaic of branches wrapping overhead. The lobby has vintage furniture and desk, which is faced by a cavernous hearth, inviting to read by the fire. A full birch tree reaches high amidst the spiralling staircase; the thick carpet runner soft as you ascend or descend, the walls all along the stairs adorned with paintings of the local natural beauty in ornate frames. There are several levels of porch over looking the lake, with sweeping views of the lawn below, lake and mountains beyond. The selections of food did not overwhelm; as they are carefully curated, selected and perfected - like the whole of the building - to complement the majestic Adirondack vista and atmosphere. I loved everything I ate, and my cocktail of tequila, strawberry pureé, and rosé was divine. Unexpectedly, as we made to leave, we found ourselves amid a small gathering in one of the sitting rooms, where an ornithologist had brought a live adult Horned Owl and was regaling the guests with facts and anecdotes from his work with birds of prey. The owl sat politely, regal even, on the back of a sofa; heading turning with deep orange eyes to watch us as his handler charmed us all. The entire experience was a treat I...
Read moreThis really was a beautiful dinner. I couldn't have asked for better service. I believe my waitress' name was Brittany, and she was really so kind and lovely. While my food was delicious.... I'm taking off one star for price. I got one appetizer, one drink, one salad, and one dessert. And my bill was 140 dollars before tip. When I was told the appetizer special was a pasta, I'm looking at all of the other appetizers and I'm seeing prices of around 20 to 30 bucks. So I'm thinking okay this thing is probably going to be 20 to 30 dollars. I knew I wanted to try dessert and salad so I thought I'd spend less by getting an app. Sometimes you just want a cool experience without breaking the bank. Not to mention I try to stay within my 100. 00 budget I get for traveling for work. Needless to say I was sticker -shocked when I saw the pasta was 60 dollars. The portion was EXTREMELY small, there was no meat. Just noodles and sauce. So it definitely hurt to pay that bill and I wouldn't come here again. However I'm glad I got the experience since they do make you feel very catered to. The amouse bouche selection was a pork consomme that was absolutely heavenly. Highly recommend if money is no object. Highly recommend staying...
Read moreWe had Thanksgiving dinner at this restaurant last night. The atmosphere, music, and service were excellent. But that is where the excellence ended. The 4 course Prix fixed meal began well with very good butternut squash soup, and a salad. The problems began with the entrees. One entree was halbut with risotto. The meal was not hot, the halibut was not cooked through, and the risotto was bland and pasty. The other entree was rack of lamb cooked medium. There were 2 pieces of lamb on the plate, one much larger than the other. I started with the smaller piece, and it was not hot. The lamb was also bland and under spiced. The second larger piece had blood running from it. The server came over and my guest was so turned off to the halibut entree that we ask they remove it from the table. I asked for the lamb to be cooked more. The server apologized. The desserts were good but not special at all. The check came to just under $300.00 including a 20 percent tip for the service. This dining experience was disappointing, but to make matters worse, we left the restaurant feeling as though management could care less about 2 unhappy...
