Read moreMy spouse and I had the pleasure of dining at Kissaki Manhasset this past weekend, at their soft opening. The space is beautifully designed, with thoughtful details throughout, from the moment you enter in the bar area, into the dining room, and all the way to the back in the restrooms. We can tell this restaurant was designed with an upscale aesthetic in mind. It completely accomplishes that, and then some. So beautiful.
We had several drinks - Old Fashioned and Lychee Martini. Both drinks were perfectly made, with the right amounts of each ingredient. My Lychee Martini had more flavor than I’m used to from other establishments, and I enjoyed it immensely. I normally order only 1 cocktail with dinner, but I ordered 2 here because I was really enjoying it.
We took the recommendation of our server, who was here from their Hamptons location, and ordered several appetizers, some sushi, and a pasta, all to share between us (family-style). Some of the highlights, and in my opinion are must-orders, include the seared scallops with fresh truffle shaved on top table-side (who can say no to fresh truffle?), the sushi and/or sashimi tasting (we had both, and the fish was super fresh, and each had a unique topping that gave it an extra special kick in flavor!), and the uni pasta (‘omg!!’ is all I can say). I can’t wait to go back and try other items on their menu.
The service from the staff was excellent; they were getting to know the new space and understandably will need time to perfect the flow of the clientele and staff in a brand new restaurant. The staff was clearly excited to work there and the energy of the staff was exceptional.
I’m excited to introduce our friends and family to this new restaurant, and already have in mind gift cards to purchase as gifts for birthdays...
Read moreOne star is for the ambience of the bar and front lounge area. The service was fine. The waiter tried to be attentive. The food was good, but frankly, it was underwhelming. All this was fine and good until everything went suddenly downhill. The waiter asked if we wanted the check, even before offering dessert. We told him that we wanted dessert, especially bc we were celebrating a birthday. The dessert came with no candle (we had requested one). He apologized and got us a candle. We were midway into dessert and still working on our cocktails when the hostess came over. They needed our table and the next reservation was waiting. (It was 8 o’clock and our reservation was at 6:15pm). We were surprised. The hostess said usually reservations were for 1 hr and 45 min. No one had told us that. Frankly, it felt like we were being chased out. They suggested we relocate to the bar. We decided to just rush through the rest of our dessert and leave. The whole interaction was so odd and off-putting. While we were paying the check, we noticed the hostess, our waiter, and another server discussing the incident and looking over at us. I have never experienced such treatment before and I felt mortified. On the way out, I discussed these feelings with the hostess and she said very coolly “well, you were 15 min late.” First of all, we weren’t. Second of all, she made it seem like we could have had more time to eat if we weren’t late. It was our fault. There was no apology about the way we were treated, except from the waiter. This was supposed to be a celebratory dinner for a special meeting among friends, but it ended on such a sour note. I will never come back again. It was overpriced and we barely digested our food before we were sent away because we overstayed...
