Edit in response because the owner of this establishment is choosing to lie rather than admitting their egregious mistakes: If you don't take reservations, why, then, did you take ours over the phone? And why - after we arrived did you place a "Reserved" sign on the large table you did not allow us to sit at?
Now that I've had about a week to cool down on this, I feel its the right time to write a review. First off - let me begin by saying the beer was delicious and the food was good - thats the ONLY reason this review is getting two stars.
We were on vacation in the area and I wanted to go out with my family to celebrate my birthday this past week. I had great memories of the old Paradox location the last time I was in the Lake George area with my family and wanted to visit again. My wife called and made a reservation early in the day for 6:30, we were told no problem. Upon arrival my wife noticed that her reservation name had been crossed off the list (I don't understand why - we weren't there yet...) and the hostess told us that "We're going to have to split up your group". We were 8 adults and 2 small children, and the brewery was not all that busy at the time. When we asked why we weren't being sat at the large table in the middle of the room the hostess immediately just said "Do you want to speak to the owner?" rather than offering any kind of explanation to the situation. This is when things went from bad to worse. The owner came over and proceeded to speak to my almost 40 year old wife as if she were a child. We were told that the large table was reserved for another group that had "Called before you" and they had no other tables that could sit our entire group and we had no choice but to sit at two different tables and split up. If a large group had called before us - and reserved the only large table why would that not be conveyed on the phone when we made our reservation? Why was no solution offered? No offer to "give us 5 minutes and we'll push a couple tables together" No apology for messing up reservations. Nothing. We were even told that the large picnic tables outside wouldn't fit us. I've worked in customer service for over 15 years and its absolutely insane to me to just throw your arms up and say "Is what it is, deal with it" let alone speak to a customer like they're a complete moron for expecting you to do even the bare minimum to rectify a situation that you yourself screwed up. If we had been in an area that had choices and had not just driven the 30 minutes up from Bolton we would have left for another place. If on the phone we had been told "we only have one large table and its already been reserved, we can't guarantee we can sit you all on one table" our expectations would have been VERY different. A very simple solution that someone with the most basic of interpersonal customer service skills could grasp.
We noticed one of the larger picnic tables outside we mentioned earlier had opened up that we thought we could fit at so we moved ourselves out there and lo and behold - we fit our entire group! The server took our drink order and we never saw her again. Then we got a different server that we thought would save the day as she seemed personable and happy to help. She took our food order, and then we never saw her again either until well after our food was delivered - food that took until 7:30 to get to our table. I had to ask the food runner for a new beer order and the afterwards server number two seemed annoyed that we had ordered with someone else. I wish I could have tried a couple more beers as this was my birthday celebration but I never got the chance as it had quickly gotten to closing time. We were there for over two hours and were only able to order two drinks and two pizzas the entire time on a not very busy night.
I've seen multiple reviews mentioning poor service, and I can tell you that has NOT changed and will probably not in the future as culture is bred from the top down, and it was absolutely laughable how this...
Read moreThis place is mediocre at best. Yesterday my family ate there as a party of 9. We arrived at about 5:45pm and the kitchen closed at 6pm. They assured us that we would be fed regardless. We were happy to have a table. The hostess/waitress took our drink order and when she brought the drinks, there were a couple mistakes. The pitcher of diet pepsi we ordered was actually Dr. Pepper and when we told our waitress, she stated "I've been using that tap all day and you're the first ones to notice!" like what? She also forgot to bring my brother's drink. For 20 minutes. And when I told her he still hadn't gotten his drink, she blamed someone else for not bringing it to the table even though she had brought each of us our drinks thus far. And then when she finally brought the canned cider in a glass to the table, she proceeded to say that "it was still just sitting up there, sorry about that!" so it sounds like he was delivered a dead drink? Mind you this drink order came out 2 or 3 drinks at a time over a 20 minute period. Then we ordered our food. The person who ordered a burger with onion rings was given a burger with chips and we had to remind the waitress that he ordered onion rings... We also ordered a Paradox Pie without onions and found many pieces of onion on the pizza, but the biggest issue was the fact that they served us a "Paradox Pie" with red sauce... This is a specialty pizza on the menu that comes with a garlic base sauce. Literally no explanation here. Luckily they took the pizza off the bill. But the food came out even slower than the drinks, 1 item at a time so everyone received their food at different times and it was just a completely awkward messy dining experience. I get that the kitchen was closing but if they couldn't handle it, they shouldn't...
Read moreMy wife and I attend the Adirondacks several times a year for hiking trips. We absolutely adore the area and all it has to offer. On our most recent trip we returned to Paradox Brewery for dinner. Our first experience here was marred by poor service, but we decided to give them a second chance. We had rushed off an all day hike, cleaned up and headed straight to Paradox. Upon arriving it was noted to be very busy. We spoke to the hostess who directed us to a table in the outside area, advising the inside dining was full. We went to the table as directed and sat for approx. 15 minutes without anyone coming by. We spoke to the people at the table beside us who were also upset at the complete lack of service. I finally went to the hostess and enquired if anyone was available to take our order. In the interim, two young gentlemen sat at another table beside us. A young female server came out, gave them both a hug, spoke with them several minutes and promptly left before I could get her attention. The gentlemen we spoke with earlier had also sent his son out to request a server, as they had been waiting 30 minutes just to pay their bill and pack up leftovers. After sitting nearly 30 minutes without anyone acknowledging out presence, we decided to leave. In fairness, I requested to speak to the manager and advise ny concerns. Upon speaking to him, it was obvious he was not receptive to my complaint and stated " Well I can serve you now". At this point I was frustrated enough that we had no intention of spending our money at the Paradox. Upon reading reviews, this circumstance...
