They make a damn good Eggplant Lasagna Sandwich (It's on their specials list).
I previously thought it was impossible to get anything but mundane, poorly prepared food within 25 miles of my rural, Ulster County, upstate NY home. Or, head over to Woodstock NY and pay through the nose, tourist's prices, for mundane food.
I stopped in LJ's on Route 28 today after hearing a glorious recommendation from the local Dollar World Manager who was chomping down on his lunch. I'm glad I did.
Good food ... very very tasteful and satisfying, large portions, inexpensive compared to others, and nice people.
If they serve it, I always order Eggplant parmigiano. This is a dish that requires a lot of time and food prep to make it right. My grandmother would spend hours the night before prepping the eggplant, breading and cooking it, just to have the ingredients ready.
LJ's does the prep work. IT was the best Eggplant Parmigiana hero I've had in months. Better than Kingston's (25 miles away) top Italian restaurants.
I now have a new lunch spot where I'm looking forward to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhat a welcome addition to Shokan! LJ's is a special restaurant. The chef, Tommy, is a natural with his special fresh and delectable cuisine. Both he and his wife are 5-Star Restaurateurs and very personable. They make your visit a very pleasant one, not to mention the special freshly made cuisine. The onion soup is the best I've ever had. The teriyaki/BBQ chicken sliders are also a favorite. I often take home a Cobb salad. It's loaded with grilled chicken strips, HB eggs, avocado, fresh mixed greens, onions, and topped with shredded red cabbage, so it also looks appetizing. I like the chef made Russian dressing to top it off. My Son came to celebrate his birthday and was impressed with his burger and the delicious very light cake that they presented to him with a candle on it. I wish this nice couple much success (but not enough that they would have to leave Shokan). I'm so blessed to have such a restaurant so...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFantastic food, good prices, really really good coffee! I took my mom here for Motherās Day since I knew everywhere would be absolutely packed. They had Motherās Day decorations which were soo incredibly sweet! We ordered the gyros and a side of fries which were perfect and delicious and hit the spot. Im looking forward to ordering the lobster ravioli next time. 3 gyros, 3 coffees and a side of fries was only $52 as cash. Since it was such a good price we all ordered a dessert which did not disappoint. I got the tres leche cake and my mom and my stepdad got the limoncello cake. Great flavor and very soft cake. I met the new owner, Tommy, very nice person and runs the business with his family. Iām very happy they took the place over, they did a great job on the renovations. I like their menu and look forward to coming here. Their coffee is Colombian which is why...
