Orangetown Classic Diner — Restaurant in Town of Orangetown

We came here at 9 am on a Monday holiday. We requested a window booth, as the hostess seemed to want to fill up the non window booths first near the restroom.

We passed on the $18 funfetti shake but it was a perfect birthday treat for the next table over. It arrived with live fireworks (sparklers) propped in the shake and a crew of singing staff to wish you a happy birthday.

We ordered Oreo pancakes, veggie skillet and a NJ egg sandwich. The food arrived quickly and our waitress seemed exhausted once she placed our order on the table. Service was attentive but we missed the warm family feel from all of the staff. The food was satisfying. But nothing really stood out compared to other diners I’ve been to.

The Veggie skillet wasn’t seasoned throughout. Read: flavorless. The delicious sauce was poured over the eggs was not enough for the rest of the dish. I supplemented with salt and ketchup on the table. It came with buttered and toasted English muffins which isn’t stated on the menu.

The Oreo pancakes were good. Not thick and fluffy, yet large and filling. The inexpensive syrup in the cup developed a skin over the top and made it hard to pour. I liked that the cookie crumbs were poured between the layers of pancakes. And the fancy whipped cream and chocolate drip all over the top helped make the pancakes moist enough to enjoy without the pancake syrup.

The NJ egg sandwich was the best thing on our table. It was the first thing my daughter reached for. The cheese we swapped for cheddar and the bacon was extra crispy.

Would not recommend this place!! Came across their Instagram page. The food pictures on their IG page are deceiving!! All of the food on IG looks amazing but that is not what you will get here. Took an hour ride from NJ to come here today. Ordered the mac n cheese squares, egg roll sampler, spinach and artichoke dip, french onion soup and vodka disco fries. I am convinced the mac n cheese squares were covered in nacho cheese out of a can. They did not taste good at all. Look at my photo and then go to their IG and look at the photo there. You be the judge. The egg roll sampler came with 1 cheesesteak, 1 buffalo chicken and 1 southwest chicken. The buffalo chicken egg roll did not taste good. There was no buffalo sauce flavor at all. In fact the chicken tasted old. The spinach dip was okay but basically a bowl of thick, white stuff. I'm not sure how to describe it but I can tell you it was cheesy but there was barely any spinach or artichoke in it. The server came to check on us and I expressed that I was unhappy with the canned cheese on the mac n cheese squares and asked that it be taken off our bill because we did not want to eat it. He insisted the cheesesauce was homemade and did not from a can. He offered something else but at that point I was over it. I paid my bill and left. Decided to treat my niece and her friends for a nice meal after their football homecoming day today. Regretfully, I attended the OrangeTown Diner. With a group of eight we were seated at a table for six adjacent to a group of about 10 children who were completely out of control. Jumping on tables and benches, screaming erratically and using explicit language barking orders at the wait staff. I stepped aside for a moment to use the restroom and escape the ear piercing screams of children to discover that as the neighboring group departed the group of children took photos of my niece and her friends in an attempt to bully them. (Mind you there was no prior relation or knowledge of who any of these children were. Immediately upon discovering this I brought the matter to the managers attention. His immediate response was “Listen if your asking me to cover your check, I can’t do that. If it was one of my workers I might be able to do something.” Zero regard for the treatment my party had experienced. (Not once was a free check expected or requested.)
