J&G's Delicatessen — Restaurant in Town of Oyster Bay

I work in the area, so have tried a fair few Delis nearby. My stores preferred Deli started to shift during covid and fell out of favor, and so me and my co-workers began the arduous quest for a good sandwich. At this juncture, we've got to J&G probably about 4 times. I've personally had the Italian (What I consider the universal point-of-reference for a Deli) and their Italian Mozz (Cutlet, fresh mozzarella and roasted red peppers) and both were great. Perfect faire, and enough to cement this as our new go-to.

Today, I went on a wild hare. I ordered the Spicy Beef Hero. I took my first bite and felt what I surmised to be what my Ancestors must've felt when they felled a mammoth. It was everything it said on the tin, hot, spicy, and with beef. But that's only partial information. The absolute symphony of flavor left me dumbstruck. The pickles and peppers were stars of the show, and really bring a brightness against the meat and pepper jack. The Chipotle mayo throws down and carries flavor throughout the whole sandwich.

It's just brilliant. Best sandwich I've had in years, and I eat sandwiches with a zealous fervor. Warren Zevon imparted a wisdom upon us long ago, to enjoy every sandwich. I have never enjoyed a sandwich with such ferocity in my life. Maybe it's because it was Monday, and I was fiending for the respite lunch brings. Or maybe the stars were aligned right, and my sandwich was the locus of all flavor in the universe.

We had a sudden death in the family and were unsure how to help our grieving family. In the South when folks are born we celebrate with food, when they die we remember them with love and food so I thought surely this would be helpful for our Yankee family on the day of the wake. Being from the deep South I had no idea who to reach out to, so I found J&G Delicatessen on Yelp - reviews were great so I gave them a shout. From the pleasant young woman that answered the phone to my interaction with Jason, the owner - I just couldn't be more pleased. They were helpful, made suggestions and worked within our budget and delivered the sandwiches and salads precisely as I requested. Our family called to say the sandwiches and salads were amazing and they were grateful for this gesture. I highly recommend J&G's Delicatessen to anyone needing a quick bite to pick up and definitely for any catering needs...

Very nice people working there and maybe just an off morning. Gave place a chance after high reviews. Ordered bacon/egg on a roll with salt/pepper and deli iced tea. Came out as bacon, egg, and what seems like someone pulled as much of the cheese as they could, since still American inside, no salt/pepper. Loaded with bacon though, but had to throw away because lactose intolerant. Iced tea way too much mix used, plus $3 on top of the sandwich for a medium is a bit high, when most delis include a small with a sandwich. Very clean and fast though, so I get why people rate it high, just a bad experience for me. Good...
