South Bay Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Town of Penfield

There are dozens of really good restaurants in Rochester - and this is NOT one of them. AVOID this place if you want good service and quality/great tasting food.

I had a bad experience here last year with poor service and low food quality. I decided to try it again and was not surprised - DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME going to this place. The service is extremely slow and it takes a minimum of 20 mins for the waitress to even take a drink order. The food is mediocre and bland - this place makes bar food taste bad. The waitress didn't listen when we provided the info on how to charge our cards and it took us another 20 minutes to track her down to fix the bill.

The owner is EXTREMELY RUDE to paying customers and treats his employees horribly- I witnessed the owner berate two employees right in front of us for handing out a to go box. He reprimands his staff in front of customers - and then they feel the need to apologize on his behalf because of his unprofessional behavior. It is clear his staff is treated poorly and are embarrassed by him.

If you visit on Wing night and have leftover wings you are NOT ALLOWED to bring home your leftover wings. I questioned the owner about this policy and he was extremely rude and condescending - he said "I don't make any money on the half priced wings so if you don't finish you have to leave them here. You can't bring them home". It doesn't make any sense - what are they going to do with our leftover wings? Re-serve them?

After I questioned the owner, he continued to stare at our table and talked about us to his staff as if we did something wrong. He sent a large threatening man over to our table who rudely picked up the napkin dispenser and slammed it on the table to show us the NO PARKING policy - he told us we needed to leave our table because we were done eating. Meanwhile there were 2 other empty tables behind us. We were enjoying the DJ and listening to the karaoke singers - if you don't want people to enjoy the entertainment then don't supply it!

In today's world where there are so many other places for people to eat, why treat paying customers so poorly? I will NEVER VISIT THIS PLACE AGAIN and I will be sure to SHARE WITH ALL MY FRIENDS AND...

This place is very popular on a nice summer evening since they have a large outside bar and patio for seating. We arrived at 5:30 on a Wednesday and we were told there was a 30-40 min wait for a 4 person table, also the parking can be challenging, so get there as early as possible.

The wait time was accurate, however not all tables have umbrellas, ours was under a triangular cloth which we thought would work. It was a hot, sunny and muggy day and the cloth wasn't covering our entire table, so we asked if we could sit inside and we were told they don't serve inside?!? I'm not sure why they don't utilize their air conditioned inside dining on a busy, hot night with a wait for tables. More than a few groups left when they were told how long the wait was.

I had the Bang Bang Shrimp and it was very good! I also ordered Garlic Parmesan Wings on the 50¢ wing night special and was told there would be no takeout box provided for any leftover wings?!? I understand they don't want people getting greedy because of the great deal, but to throw out food instead, what a waste! Maybe a per person or per table limit would be more appropriate?

Now, back to the wings, they were a good size, but over cooked and very dry. All of the sauce (not much Parmesan or garlic and mostly butter) was on the bottom of a paper covered plastic basket, I couldn't even try to dip them at the bottom of the basket without getting parts of the paper stuck to my wing. They didn't look like they were even tossed in the sauce and tasted like a plain fried wing.

About 1/2 way through our meal, we were surprised with an unexpected downpour sending people running for cover into the inside bar and also a small rectangular covered area attached to the building. Since we had no umbrella, our food was soaked pretty quickly and we waited inside for our waitress so we could pay and leave. This was not their fault, but more umbrellas would be a great addition to the outside dining area, those people were able to shield themselves along with their food and drinks adequately...

Stopped in with 4 other guest for dinner last Friday. We’re treated and sat and everything started out good. Drinks came quick and ordered 3 apps. Apps arrived and the bang bang shrimp was great. They put in dinner orders and that’s where things went south. 4 dinner show up and one was missing, waitress said after noticing one was missing she would check on it. We all start eating our food and then we noticed she’s walking around. She finally came over five minutes later to say they burned her chicken in her re-cooking it. Meanwhile one dinner was inedible we had sent back. She said she would take it off the bill. After 20 minutes of the other dinner not showing up one of our family members went up and asked the hostess. She was told that they were just now putting the food on the grill. 10 minutes later a manager showed up with the food and apologized and asked us what happened. We said of dinner just didn’t show up. I guess the waitress told him that it was an add-on order when really she must’ve just not ordered all together so she might to us about it being burned And then put it as a separate so Kitchen didn’t rush it. We had already finished eating so we had to go that would be taken off the bill as well. Come to find out the original food we sent back was never taken off the bill. The waitress was apologetic about the food was just a complete utter mess for food that wasn’t very good. My dinner I got the chicken French, and although it tasted good, it was completely cold when it arrived at the table . Other than the bang bang shrimp was delicious. I don’t like leaving bad reviews I really don’t, but this was really bad. Didn’t help that there was a guy so drunk at the bar screaming while there were around and being completely inappropriate. Drinks were good. I would say maybe a good place to go and grab a drink but if you order food plan on a long wait and hope to God that it’s the correct order if it even gets...
