We were seated immediately. Chips and salsa were brought to the table. The SALSA was so watery it didn't even taste like anything. We waited 15 min to order our drinks, we had ordered at the same time as drinks (obviously because it took so long for a server to even acknowledge us). We received our drinks (soda) 10 mins later. An hour goes by, we are all in disbelief that we haven't received our food yet. We even went outside for 15 -20 mins. We received our food after sitting there for an hour and a half. They set the food down, my shrimp chimichanga was burnt. I couldn't get anyone's attention so I tried to eat it because I was starving by that point ( I ate the inside of the chimi ). This should not have been sent out in the first place! I mentioned the burnt food and how I wasn't going to eat it or take it home (I was asked if I needed a to go container). STILL paid full price! No discount, No sorry, Nothing. Never going back. Oh and their parking situation is ridiculous. Also seems as if they like to have more fun in the bar than pay attention to the customers and the...
Read moreThe quick take: The food and service is adequate, not bad, but not memorable either.
The food is nothing special. Its not bad by any means, just not worth coming back for. Extensive menu of bland food that seems to have been stripped of all authentic flavor. Best thing about our meal was the horchata, some of the best I've ever had-including in Mexico. The decor is nothing fancy, not that it needs to be.
There are no waitresses, only waiters. Our waiter was polite but not personal. Seemed to be more interested in how the entire place was running, not about how our experience was coming along. We were there about 6pm on a Saturday night, the place was not busy.
One frustrating part of the place was when we ordered a beer. I waited over 10 minutes for it to hit the table! When we asked about the drink we were told that the bar was getting it ready. That procedure is not unique to this eatery, but is still frustrating...
Read moreBest Mexican restaurant in the Wausau area since Diamond Dave's closed down 20 years ago. EVERYTHING I have eaten here has been nothing short of fantastic and the prices are very reasonable for the quality & quantity of food they produce. Even the chips & salsa are great (I prefer much spicier salsa than they offer, but you can request a habanero sauce to compliment it). Their cheese sauce is to die for...I highly recommend it. The staff is also very friendly and they make you feel like family.
One suggestion I have for the owners is to offer a rewards card for repeat customers. Maybe offer a free specialty drink, appetizer, or entree for every $100 you spend. That would make me want to come here even more often.
My recommendations... Appetizer: Grilled chicken quesadillas with cheese dip Entree: Beef chimichanga (OR) Tacos al Pastor Dessert: Nieve Frita Drink:...
