If you have any love for food, please bear with me: I came in with a small party on a Sunday, approx 1/2 hour after Arthur's opened. When I came in, two staff members passed by without a word and I had to wave down the third person to ask about my party's whereabouts. I was told "yeah, they're in the waterfall room" and then she walked away, leaving me to find them on my own. On my journey to them I counted three other filled tables in the entire place. I mention that only because it took a half hour for a basket of fried pickles, and an hour for the rest of the food. On to the food... Had I not spent the majority of my life around food, they might have tricked me. To you, reader, if you ever see a business claim "the finest casual dining around"....walk away. It's mediocre food at fine dining prices. Two people ordered the "baked pasta", which was OBVIOUSLY just old pasta scooped onto a plate and microwaved. A mess of congealed gloop with a crust on top so dried out one needed a steak knife to get through it. One person ordered the fettuccine and claimed it was watery and tasteless. Three people ordered steaks. All three were cooked NOT to temp, and were MASSIVELY over seasoned with store bought seasoning (this was admitted to me). I suggest going to your local hunting shop and buying a salt lick, instead. Mine was close to temp, so I give them that.. Now my main quarrel, which was the lobster tail. The waitress admitted it was not fresh but I gave it a shot, being as they charge $35 for the thing. It turned out to be a cold lump of tasteless rubber. After several seconds of ripping at it with both hands and fork I managed to get a single bite off of it. I spit it back out onto the plate and sent it back. Minutes later the waitress returned with...I assume the manager (maybe owner) who never introduced herself. She began berating me in front of her other customers, suggesting I was nuts and that "we serve great food here, especially the lobster". Furthermore, she informed me that she and her two "exceptional" chefs had eaten my lobster and thought it was wonderful, but she would go ahead and take 50% off since I didn't agree. Aloud I told her I didn't come here to feed her and her staff, and that I wanted it off the bill completely. Secretly I wondered which one of them got to eat the chunk I had spit back onto the plate.... Trust me, this isn't the end of this horrible ordeal, because we could talk about the freshness of their beef despite the fact they are situated right down the street from a butcher shop, but it's where I'll start to wrap it up. There were two compliments. One guest said she enjoyed her plain baked potato, and the person who ordered the salmon said it was "alright". All said and done, after two different conversations with manager/owner(?) she decided we needed to agree to disagree, because she loves their food and some people's palates just aren't as good as others. I imagine back in the day they were probably something special. I wish I could have been there, back then. To date, If you want to get what you expect at a reasonable price, go to the fast food joint down the road. If you want a $35 cold lump of flavorless rubber, go to the local mechanic and buy an old tire. As it was, after eating Arthur's "premium" steak, halfway home I started wondering what to cook people for dinner. Shameful food, shameful manager/owner....the waitress was a sweetheart, Candice I think... you deserve better in life. In the meantime I know seven people who will never return, despite the manager's invitation for me to come for "lobster feast" "[.....] it's the same lobster, but you will see how good it is." AKA "you can come pay ahead of time next time to not eat terrible lobster". Just truly awful. Even worse, the wait staff seems to know the awfulness of the place. The owner is delusional. I wouldn't recommend this place even to a person I wanted to...
Read moreI've been to Arthur's on many occasions but only at the urging of others. The only thing that I consider worth getting is the salad bar. Majority of the is rather expensive and that is not reflected in the flavor.
In my experiences the staff have been rather nice and accommodating. However, I have known quite a few of their past employees and they had a lot to say about their job. They would complain about their wages, how they were treated by management, and the list goes on. I refuse to support a business that does not treat their adequately. Keep in mind, these staff members did work under the current owners and not the previous ones so this review is up to date.
I have a specific story that I would like to share as well. I decided to let my mother pick where I would treat her to dinner. She is not from the area and said that this place looked the nicest in the area and I agree, the place looks nice on the internet and their website is better than most restaurants. I told her about my other experiences but she was rather adamant. Once we arrived it took quite a while to get us seated but I don't blame the server, they have a difficult job to do and things seemed busy. Once we were sat we ordered waters and that took longer than it should have in my opinion. I live in the area and the tap water is alright but the water here was terrible. My mother compared it to what she'd imagine toilet water is like. With my recommendation we got the all you can eat salad bar. We each had one salad and then went back for seconds. Whilst my mother was putting salad into her dish we both noticed something. There were hairs in the lettuce, at least two if not more. Seeing as we had already eaten some of that lettuce we were disgusted. We informed our waitress and she was extremely apologetic and nice about it. We waited for a while so that the lettuce could be changed out. Eventually, we made our way back to the salad bar and the lettuce was not changed out but the hair was no longer there. I knew that the lettuce was not changed out because when we got our first salads there were a couple of peas in the corner of the dish, probably from another one of the patrons, and those peas were still there. Typically, if there is hair in the food in a buffet setting I would be more lenient because there are more people that handle and go near the food but the fact that the lettuce and dish were not changed out was appalling, I don't promote food waste but when you are paying a significant amount for a quality dining experience that is what you expect. We notified our waitress of the lackluster "solution" to the problem and let her know that we were done. Her name escapes me but she was lovely and apologized once again. Despite the issues that we encountered we still gave her a great tip because it wasn't her fault.
The only thing that saves this restaurant from a one star review is the staff that I have encountered and the atmosphere. The restaurant looks very nice, it's a shame that the other aspects of the experience...
Read moreMy husband and I just had dinner here for our wedding anniversary. Unfortunately it wasnt the greatest. After researching places for dinner before traveling to Spring Green, I was pretty excited about our reservations. The website advertised appetizing photos and I somewhat expected something a bit more for the price range.
We called ahead and made a 630pm reservation and arrived about 10 min early. There was one other couple waiting ahead of us so we didn't expect a long wait. While waiting, we witnessed a rather distracted hostess crash into a waitress which knocked over a drink and broke glass on the carpet. She almost did it a 2nd time. It's obvious that she needs to be more aware of her surroundings. We noticed The other couple waiting didn't look pleased and it was apparent they've been waiting for awhile. A pair got seated before both of us without having a reservation. Huh? Then We were seated before the waiting couple which didn't make sense but that was just after the oblivious hostess didn't know where we were even when we were sitting within 20 feet of her. I really hope that couple got a table.... or went somewhere better than this.
Our lovely waitress Danielle greeted us and took our order promptly. She was friendly and we could tell was as quick as the kitchen allowed. We each ordered a cocktail, an appetizer, salad bar, and entrees. Drinks came out quick. Unfortunately the Wisconsin old fashioned my husband ordered tasted like hand sanitizer. Danielle was awesome and comped the drink and replaced it with a better one. So far so good.
The fried pickles we ordered were great. Pickles were still Crunchy and not soggy. Batter was light and flaky. Perfect in my opinion. The salad bar was lack luster. The soups were eh. A chicken and gnocchi which wasn't even a soup. And a sea food chowder. We tried both. They were flavorless place fillers. Up side.... the dinner rolls were hot and came with a tasty butter. They were exceptionally good since we waited for our main entrees for over an hour and a half. Our prime ribs were ok. Could have used more seasoning on mine. My baked potato was cold on top but lukewarm in the middle. My husband's prime rib was so salty that no amount of water could rehydrate him. Apparently his prime rib got mines seasoning. Paired with Oreida crinkle cut frozen fries? How much was this dinner??
$100 plus tip. Sigh.... I paid the bill for the extremely dated atmosphere, lack luster food, air headed hostess but Danielle saved the experience. She deserves not only the tip but the entire bill amount. Won't be coming here again if we are ever in town. Plus there was still glass in the carpet by...
