My parents and I were here for breakfast on a Sunday recently. This place was formerly White Fox Den. It's now called Crossover Cantina and we decided to check it out. Like some others have said... we really wanted to enjoy the experience because there are limited options for dining in the area.
The place has undergone significant remodeling and the building (inside and out) now sports a Southwest Tex-Mex theme. The layout has an authentic feel. They have pulled up all of the carpet in favor of a painted/polished concrete floor. They have also removed the ceiling tile in favor of an exposed blacked out mechanical look ceiling. This creates two real problems. A huge noise problem and a temperature problem especially anywhere near the doors.
Let's start with the noise. When I dine out with friends and family the idea is to catch up and have a conversation. There is an ENORMOUS sound problem (especially when they start to get busy) to the point where it is difficult at best to have a conversation with anyone including our server. We all had to REPEAT our orders to the server several times and it wasn't her fault. The owner needs to hang some sound suppression panels (lots of them) and fast.
Removing the carpet and ceiling tiles also makes it noticeably cold in the restaurant. This design and concept may work in Arizona, Mexico, or Texas but not in Waterford, Wisconsin. My advice... dont let them seat you anywhere near the doors in late fall, winter, and early spring. Anytime someone comes in or out of the door you get a cold artic blast.
Onto the breakfast food.... Crossover Catina has a decent breakfast menu but not like what they had when it was White Fox Den. Another big change is the price. Prices have gone up significantly on the breakfast menu while the food portions served have gone down. Everyone at my table said the same thing and we had all selected different menu items. The food was just ok in our opinion. It just wasn't worth what we paid. There are better breakfast dining options elsewhere.
Truly unfortunate because we were hoping for a better experience. As far as breakfast goes ..the old White Fox Den was so much better at breakfast and was a better value (more bang for the buck) than the new Crossover Cantina.
We may come back when the weather is warmer to try Crossover Cantina for lunch or dinner and sample some adult beverages. Hopefully by then the owner will have fixed the noise/sound issue. However, we will NOT be back for breakfast as there are better...

We decided to give them a 2nd try and we are glad we did. Service was so much better. Our server Levi was good and no issue getting everything in a timely manner. Food was as before good, although, I didnt reorder the guacamole maybe next time. After this experience i would say they are getting in the groove and are on thier way. Again, so glad we gave ot another chance.
Old review Just moved to Waterford from San Diego and my family and I were looking for a place to fill our Mexican food void. We went in early 2pm because this place has been jam packed the past few time we have driven by and we have a 2 year old.
Went in and we were seated right away and that's when it goes downhill. The lady who seated us took our drink order 3 waters and 2 root beers. 15 minutes later she comes back stating she had to check the back for our root beers because they had just received a shipment. Another 15 minutes pass and they didn't have root beer on that order apparently, which is fine but we still could have gotten our waters in the 30 minutes it took to check for root beer! Plus, to add insult to injury, the waitress says, "sorry but your waitress had to leave and I was covering my tables!" All the while I watched a waitress with the two tables in front of us take care of her patrons with ease. Now my wife would tell you it was because she is Asian and that's why we got poor service (everyone else was white); I think it was more they didn't know how to handle the work load (well I hope anyways), but I digress.
Then we ordered guacamole. What was brought out to us wasn't guacamole and to claim it was freshly made- well I would strongly disagree. For one, it was slightly brown (like it was refrigerated for a while). The meal itself was adequate and why I am giving 2 stars. Service and attention is why we go out to eat. Anyone can cook on thier own. I don't expect an apology but I do hope they work on providing better service in the future and if you call something fresh, be true...
Read moreI have been to Crossover twice now in the last few weeks. The first experience was in the bar. I liked the new renovation and the fact that they could open the overhead doors in the bar for outdoor dining in perfect weather. We bellied up to the bar and the bartender served us our lunch. We ordered Bloody Mary's with beer chasers. The bartender gave us a laundry list of the vodkas available. We choose a middle of the road brand. Not expecting to be charged top shelf pricing. The next drink ordered was a vodka gimlet. They carry NO Rose's Lime juice so we changed our choice. The Mango Margarita was the best drink both in flavor and price. NOTE taken. The bar was relatively quiet as it was a Monday at 1:30. The food was good and portions generous. We got the bill and was sticker shocked at the drink pricing. This is Waterford not Milwaukee. My next visit was again a Monday a little later in the day and it was quiet and comfortable. I sat in the booths in the dining area. I did not order drinks this time. I ordered the same thing I did the first visit but did not receive the same meal. The portion was smaller and was not offered the same side choices. Consistency is the key. The waitress was polite but not really into her job that day. Meanwhile Juan was handing out special marketing envelopes to all his customers with a gift cards with unknown values to come back in January. Don't open the envelope till you come in in January to find out your discount. Juan was bubbly and fun. My waitress was not. Will I come back again? Probably. Will I order drinks again? Depends on the day and probably only 1. Is this a must go?...
