Peppy's Ice Cream Shop — Restaurant in Town of Waterloo

Employee obnoxiously refused to serve my son who is allergic to peanuts. Mind you he does oral immunotherapy, eats 4 peanuts a day, and is fine with cross contact with peanuts. We told the lady at the counter that our son is allergic to peanuts, sunflower, and egg, and asked if their soft serve had any of those ingredients. She replied “peanuts are everywhere” and were “on her hands” therefore she would not serve him. I still do not understand what was preventing someone employed in food service from washing their hands/putting on gloves, grabbing a clean scooper, or just verifying ingredients in their soft serve ice cream. We didn’t even get a chance to ask her to do these things because her words and attitude made it clear that she couldn’t be bothered to wash hands, not that she was in any way concerned about his safety. I do not expect anyone to go out of their way because of my son’s allergies. If she had simply said she didn’t feel comfortable serving him then I’d understand that as we’ve encountered such sentiments in the past. I have never encountered such obnoxious service regarding my son’s disability. Peppy needs to manage their employees...

Teenagers should never be allowed to "run" a business with out super vision of an adult. Last 2 times ive been here both workers have been lazy. Lying and saying machines are down yet serve the item i just asked for to the people behind me. When we first got there there was a crowd of yelling obnoxious teenagers im assuming were their friends. Not something i want to deal with at a "friendly family place". Id rather make my own ice cream than be lied to bc the child behind the counter is to lazy to make my flurry. Ill be goung else...

A great place to get a treat or quick bite. They have hotdogs, pretzels, nachos, burgers. A large variety of hard and soft ice cream plus shakes, floats, and slushies. The outside dining areas are lovely; picnic tables and also metal tables and chairs with umbrellas for shade. Parking lot is large but be careful of getting boxed in on a busy day by people who park right behind you. I took 1 star off because of the high prices! $7 for a rootbeer float is much more expensive than other ice cream shops...
