I hate leaving 1 star reviews but I’m an honest person and I’m assuming the business wants honest feedback back so here goes… we visited on a Monday afternoon for a late lunch after visiting the waterfalls. We (me and best friend) were exhausted and starving from our hike so when we pulled up and saw the view we were even happier! Being from the NY city area fine dining is something we do well don’t get me wrong we can rough it with the best of them but this was far from “fine dining” it was even a far cry from a step above microwaved food. We are very easy going and understand most restaurants that have views like this either have amazing views or good food. We were fine having less than great food if we could enjoy the atmosphere and the drinks. The apple cider spritzer wasn’t for me, but other tables were ordering so 🤷🏻♀️. Love that they are dog friendly. Some customers had dogs relaxing, some were barking but that’s what dogs do! The host was very kind, he seemed to double as a bartender. Our server was very nice, she did not get our order correct but it was busy and she seemed to be the only one serving. I had the chicken tenders with sweet potato fries. They were so greasy they dripped oil all over the fries. I hate giving businesses poor reviews but the fish tacos should be removed from menu or moved to children’s menu if they are going to be served that way. No non dairy options which was fine until the fish tacos were covered in melted shred cheese as well as unmelted. If they tasted good I wouldn’t care what they looked like but it was a tortilla with iceberg lettuce, cheese, green bell pepper, tomato and the usual sides (sour cream, salsa) we don’t waste food but we couldn’t force ourselves to eat the food. There was a little merch shop attached to restaurant that had some cute stuff but after our meal we were ready to go to subway so we didn’t get a chance to purchase anything. Our waitress was very sweet. She was being run all over by the other guests but she kept her cool and seemed to tend to everyone very well. For two of us to have 1 alcoholic drink, 1 soda, shared appetizer, fish tacos, chicken tenders the bill was $78. We don’t mind paying $$$ if it’s worth it. Can’t rate the other guests but if we could it wouldn’t help the restaurant 🤣. I was called a hippy liberal!?! Because I have purple hair and was smoking (my prescribed marijuana) in the parking lot. Or because we are tattooed I’m not sure. For the record I could care less about politics so a lazy hippy maybe. Can’t take anything away from the the views or the actual restaurant it was set...
Read moreWings with a side of health code violations.
I wanted to enjoy this place, I really did. the location is amazing and I have driven past it many times. Wish I had kept driving past it.
I ordered multiple appetizers and a steak with a salad. When my wings came out an army of gnats came with them. They were literally crawling out from under the wings. The waitress apologized and told me that “it was just that time of year and that there was nothing they could do.” I kindly responded that due to my twenty years plus years as a chef I knew there was nothing she could do but that her manager needed to hire an exterminator. Over the next hour I swatted bugs away from my food and with each course more came. My salad was crawling with them. The sauce on the scallops did a good job of catching them. Those black dots in the pic are not pepper specks, those are bugs.
All I could think about through my very unpleasant time here were the conditions that must exist in the kitchen for an infestation of that magnitude to be present.
Now I mentioned the bugs to the server and during the course of my meal every member of the kitchen walked out to see who had complained. Two of them were wearing sleeveless shirts with the armpits cut out to the belt line. That is not only disgusting and dirty but a blatant health code violation. Kitchen staff can not wear sleeveless shirts while preparing food for the public. As I left I noted that the kitchen door was wide open. It had a screen but that is no good if it’s propped open. Once again a violation and also how the flies got there in the first place. Furthermore it’s the very first thing people see when they walk in.
To the owners. Check your management staff. They are failing you. How do you get rid of flies? Start by closing your kitchen for a day. Bring the entire staff in for a deep clean. Pull out all the equipment in the kitchen and bleach/scrub every inch of every surface. Eliminate all standing water. Hire an exterminator. At your price point you can afford it and it’s appalling that conditions are as they are. You should be ashamed...
Read moreBeautiful view but sadly, that's where the review tops out. Drinks were excellent but it took an extraodianirely long time for the 2nd round to be offered. Appetizers took a long time to come out - the Bang Bang shrimp was sweet and spicy (I enjoyed it but it was too spicy for the rest of my group). Salads and soups did not come before dinner - they were actually delivered after the meals with an excuse and half-hearted apology. My NY strip was ordered medium rare with mushrooms and onions on the side... it was medium at best (barely pink), smothered with average mushrooms and onions. I stopped eating it less than half way through. Another member of my party ordered the scallops for $33. It consisted of 6 bite size scallops - hardly a meal. Another members' French fries were cold while another member's salad was served on a hot plate. The beyond meat tacos were sub par. The honey glazed salmon was very good.... no complaints but that means it was 1 out of 5 for good meals. Wish we saw our waitress more often but she seemed more preoccupied with drinking water at the bar than attending to us. The mac-n- cheese side was average. The less-than-stellar experience even extended to the restrooms where the men's room ran out of towels and the women's side had no toilet paper. To be 100% honest - we are NOT complainers - and should have expressed our disappointment before we left - but we aren't those type of people... however, we all felt the need to speak honestly about this disaster. We will not be back to "The Switz" anytime soon. We were offered complementary drinks for our inconvenience (slow food service) but by then, we were ready to leave and had been waiting for the check - which also took...
