Jonny Cakes Cafe — Restaurant in Troy

Went here based in a recommendation from a friend.

The food is good and portions are nice but it's not enough to cover for poor service. I went after church and to be expected it was busy. Keep in mind I'm a towering figure and it's impossible to look through me, pass me, around me, let alone get by me without altering your steps but somehow it happened here. I stood at the register for five minutes before anyone asked me if I had been helped. There were no less than six girls working the line as well as a gentleman who I assume was the manager sitting people. After I ordered it took another thirty minutes before I got my food. A lady who ordered a Mexican omelette with fruit and pancakes managed to eat her entire meal before I even got mine. She was slight frame and ate her food slowly. Very disappointed in the service. The staff were friendly to other people, sat them quickly and we're quick to get there orders. I asked for a sec to look at the menu and immediately knew what I wanted and then had to wait an eternity for someone to take my order.

The chicken cordon bleu omelette was good when I got it. Chunks of chicken and ham was a nice combination. It's hard to mess up hash Browns or pancakes and this place did not. Though there's nothing unique about either.

Usually bad service and good food is a wash and I would give it three stars but this was excessive. And even though it was busy at first it did slow down and my help was still slow. Probably...

It seems this is a place to go specifically for the pancakes and waffles. We went for my brother's birthday during Sunday brunch. It seemed like the pancakes were delicious although they didn't offer any vegan pancakes (which is no surprise, they're tough to find) so I had to figure out a way to make something else work for me. I ended up getting the Mediterranean skillet minus the eggs and cheese, plus more veggies. It was OK, but I would be surprised if the eggs and cheese really made it that much better. I ended up slathering it in hot sauce just so I could taste some flavor. I was told the huevos rancheros was more of the same only extra spicy. One person got the fries, they seemed to really like them. There was an order of the red velvet pancakes, the oreo pancakes and the fruit pancakes. The oreo and fruit pancakes were the same pancakes just with different toppings, nothing special about the actual pancake. The red velvet looked like it could have been the same pancake just with a couple drops of food coloring added. All in all, not terrible. Clearly it was a pretty popular spot especially when we went (Sunday brunch time) we ended up waiting for about 25 minutes for a seat after they said it would be 10. Clearly they were busy! Oh! They also had fresh squeezed OJ, but unfortunately it wasn't very good. I'm sure that has more to do with the quality of oranges and whether they are in season or not but it was pretty flavorless for...

I would not recommend this place. Customer service was terrible. My cousins and I had came here for brunch this past Sunday. The young lady greeted us and we were told to hold on while she cleaned a table. We stood for about 5 minutes and a young man informed us that there was a seating area. The young lady stated it slipped her mind to inform us of the seating area. When it was time to be seated, she tries to put the 5 of us at a little booth and add two chairs; Pretty much in the middle of the floor where traffic is coming in and out. I asked her if we could sit at this booth that I saw 5 people sitting in when we came in. She stated she was told that the table was for a group size of 6 or more. When I explained to her the number of people that were sitting at the table, she went back to the manager (I am assuming) to inquire about the table. She comes back and told us that they had a group size of 6 just come in and they needed to sit them. The manager came over trying to explain why she had to sit the other party which didn’t make sense because we still had not been accommodated for our seating.
