We recently went to dinner at The Lodge Restaurant with three young children and four adults. We dined on the deck overlooking a portion of the golf course. While the restaurant has a limited menu it has ample variety including appetizers, bistro options, main course choices and specials. A great option for children is their pre-fixe three course meal at a reasonable price. Our adult choices this evening included prime rib (perfectly cooked), 2 fish specials of black cod and a vegetarian option of polenta and roasted vegetables. All the meals had ample portion size, were not over-seasoned and were enjoyed by all. The charcuterie board ordered as an appetizer on the other hand I thought, was meager given the cost. The children's meals came with brownie and ice cream for dessert while the mini-donuts with two dipping sauces option was a hit with the adults.
The Lodge has complete bar facilities with a variety of top-notch liquor as well as wine choices by the glass or bottle.
The wait staff was attentive without being intrusive and our server, Marissa was especially friendly, responsive and quite professional. Our party enjoyed her very much. While not an inexpensive place to eat if you are having drinks, full dinner and wine service, I do feel cost was commensative with the...
Read moreDriving for several hours, shoveling snow to get into the drive, unpacking all the gear and then getting lucky with an early reservation at the Lodge makes it all worth while. We usually opt for dining at the cabin but old age and laziness blessed us with a wonderful dining experience. We were never wanting for anything. The staff are perfectly attentive and quick. Our food came quickly and hot... even when we threw in a last minute, kids will change their mind, order. Margaritas come by the pint!!! Love it. I would have been happy with just that but the icing on the cake was the tender and flavorful short ribs over a bed of broccolini. The char on the outside was a little overpowering and could have been done less charcoaling on the grill or blow torch. The kids pasta was more then generous as well as the kid calamari which is a half order but a full order anywhere else. Yes, for king size portions of fried food. The desserts are also very sizeable. The pumpkin cheesecake could have been a bucket sized oreo crust with pumpkin mousse poured in and filled with whip cream... this is a meal in it's self. Overall a wonderful fulfilling and relaxing meal. We will be sure to make reservations further in advance to blunt the just getting...
Read moreDecided to have Thanksgiving dinner at The Lodge with our next door Tahoe Donner neighbors. We try to support The Lodge as TD owners. This year's Thanksgiving Dinner was buffet style so they could serve more customers. It was an utter disaster. The food line often ran out of a dish, sometimes two, and no one was there to supervise or order more from the kitchen. The dark turkey meat was sliced into cubes and we were unable to bite into it. The white turkey meat was overcooked, as were the yams which again we were unable to cut or chew. The stuffing was awful - - none of us could recognize it as stuffing - - loose, dry, awful. The mashed potatoes were good, as were the gravy and cranberry sauce, but the kept running out of all three. You might expect something like this at Sizzler, but not at The Lodge and for those prices. Not sure if the chef has been there too long and is just bored with things, if the manager hasn't the requisite experience, but something is very wrong when you put out a holiday meal, mainly for your owners, and it is so bad. The Lodge needs to put some serious high level management attention into special meals like this and make sure this never happens again. It was...
