If I could give negative one start, I would. The meanest unfriendliest staff. it was my first time coming in today for light snack or lunch after couple hours of hiking, so i am hungry, I've never been there before so did not know whether they are "grab food from the window" type of place or "sit down with white tablecloths". I've had Mediterranean food before, I love it, always enjoy Layla's falafel food, other middle eastern eateries (my husband was Egyptian) , so I really was craving some dolma and baba ganoush. They have a counter with many foods/salads displayed and some containers with already food prepackaged (like 4-5 sections containers). It was not busy, 2 or 3 tables outside, nobody inside, so i thought I'll just grab that container. Well, they told me "no, you can't have it, it's a platter, not for sale". Maybe lady i asked did not understand English well, but i found it very strange that a restaurant has dozens of containers with identical food displayed and can't sell me one. Then i asked if I can make "new container" with some food i want, and again "no, can;t do that". I that point I am getting upset that instead of trying to accommodate and feed hungry customer who just wants some food to eat at your restaurant and explaining how it is you actually sell/serve food , all I get from you is "no, can't have that, can't do that". So just TELL MEE HOW I CAN get food here!!! SO i asked straight "can i have 2 dolmas and some baba ganoush ?" Well, they guy behind counter did not even know what "dolma" is. So i had to point at "stuffed grape leaves". I am ordering at that point few things from their display - "2 dolmas, 1 cheese stick, some baba ganoush" - not once the guy stopped to explain that those will not be "single items" but rather plates full of dolmas and cheese sticks. When he rang $33 it did seem too high for "2 dolmas, 1 cheese stick, some baba ganoush", I know, my fault, i should have asked to explain. Since none of my food had to be cooked, i thought it will be quick to take those things from display cabinet and put on plate - that took them 30 mins. I came inside asking if maybe my order ready, they were putting it on a big tray. I was a bit upset seeing so much food instead of "2 dolmas, 1 cheese stick, some baba ganoush". Of course, when I tried to tell them that's not what I was ordering, they made it sound it was my fault for not knowing how they run their restaurant. When I asked "if someone can, please, hold the door for me while I carry this huge tray, because your door is very heavy" , I got reply "the door is not heavy". I am SHOCKED how they are even in business still. From all the replies that "owners" posted to 1-star reviews, you can see how they make it sound it was ALWAYS customer's fault! Nowhere in America have i encountered that (I am from Europe, and back home rude customer service was a norm 30 years ago). Customer is always right in any other "customer service" places, owners of any eating establishments always try to accommodate you, at least on your first visit. You can always say " sorry we do not sell single items, but we will make you a plate this one time" . Make customer HAPPY! Don't treat customer like you are doing a favor to customer. It is the OTHER WAY around. Will never go back to this place and will tell all my friends to never go there. Btw, their food did not come even close to Layla's falafel or Bereket...
Read moreMy wife and I stopped into Abi’s Falafel recently and we were both seriously impressed. This place is such a hidden gem. We ordered the Mixed Grill Platter and the Falafel Platter and everything was absolutely delicious — super fresh, authentic, and full of flavor.
The Mixed Grill had perfectly cooked lamb chops, chicken, and kefta. You could taste the spices in every bite, and the meat was juicy and tender. The Falafel Platter was just as good — the falafel were crispy on the outside and soft inside, with really clean, fresh flavor (not greasy like you sometimes find elsewhere). Everything came with fresh pita, creamy hummus, and a light, refreshing salad. You can tell they care a lot about the ingredients they use and how the food is prepared — nothing tasted rushed or cheap.
The vibe inside is casual and comfortable. You walk up to the counter to order (there's a menu board right above), and they’ll bring your food out to your table if you’re dining in, or you can take it to go. The restaurant was super clean and well-kept, which we both appreciated. It just felt good being there.
The owner and the staff were really friendly and welcoming too — you could tell they genuinely appreciate every customer that comes through the door. It's always nice when you feel like your business is valued.
Prices were very fair, especially considering the portion sizes and the quality of the food. It’s also a great spot if you’re vegetarian — lots of meatless options that looked really good too.
We will absolutely be recommending Abi’s Falafel to friends and family, and we’re already planning to come back soon to try even more of the menu. If you're looking for authentic Mediterranean food in the Trumbull area, this place is 100%...
