Terrible Experience – Would Not Recommend

I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience at Box Lunch Truro was disappointing on so many levels that I feel compelled to warn others.

First, I found blonde hair in my food, not once, but multiple strands. Absolutely unacceptable. On top of that, I specifically ordered the John Alden sandwich without onions, and it still came loaded with onions. I also ordered a double lobster roll, which I was charged for, but what I received was clearly a regular portion, nothing "double" about it.

The worst part of it all? The owner’s behavior. She is incredibly rude, not only to customers but shockingly disrespectful to her own staff. I witnessed her speaking to employees in an aggressive and demeaning manner, which made the whole atmosphere extremely uncomfortable. Honestly, that alone was enough to make me not want to return. I didn’t even feel comfortable complaining about the hair in my food because of how hostile the environment was. I feel genuinely sorry for the employees who have to deal with her on a daily basis.

To top it off, the bathroom was out of order, which is unacceptable for a food establishment. And for what they charge? It’s ridiculously overpriced for the quality and service you get. There are several other places in the area with better food, better service, and far more respectful management. Despite the unpleasant experience with the owner, I want to mention that the employees were polite and professional. They seemed to be doing their best under difficult circumstances, and I appreciated their efforts to make my experience as pleasant as possible, despite the overall issues with the management.

Another thing I couldn’t ignore was the owner’s attitude toward certain customers. I noticed that when she was at the register and the customers appeared to be part of the LGBTQ+ community or were clearly not American, she had a tendency to roll her eyes and act visibly dismissive. It was subtle, but consistent enough to be noticeable, and completely unprofessional. No one should feel unwelcome or judged based on who they are or where they’re from.

I do not support businesses that mistreat their staff or serve unsanitary food. I won’t be going back—and I suggest you...

Food was mediocre, but the service was so poor. A middle-aged guy, who could’ve been the owner, took our order. Did not ask if we wanted a wrap or panini, so we all got wraps, though none of us wanted that. Basically the fillings were just microwaved half-way and still cold. The cheese wasn’t even melted in a chicken parm. When I ordered a grilled cheese for my kid, he pretended to not understand what that was until I finally said “the Boring”. Like - you don’t know what a grilled cheese is? Finally we asked about how long so we could wait outside and he said “I don’t know” in a rude manner. We had heard him tell someone else 20 min, so we asked if it would be about that and he said “yeah, if you’re lucky”. Like why? Go home if you can’t human. We will never go to any of their locations in the future after that introduction.

Edit to add after owner response - we were extremely patient. We asked how long it would take in a very friendly manner so we would know when to come back inside and pick up the food as we didn’t want to crowd the small space for others. This response just confirms that it wasn’t a single bad interaction, but more of an ongoing...

I have been going to Box Lunch for my entire life, and absolutely love their sandwiches. I stopped by recently with my mother, and we were shocked and disappointed. The owner was sitting right at the counter, mask off, loudly and angrily gossiping on her phone. Not only was it inappropriate, but it made it really hard for my mother to hear as we were trying to place our order. The call went on for probably over 20 minutes, maybe longer! It was a beautiful day, so it seemed especially oblivious that she didn't just step outside and spray her spittle far away from the small restaurant. Honestly, I would have been uncomfortable even it wasn't a pandemic- who wants to hear anyone's angry phone call? But the lack of mask while it was going on was really the kicker. The whole thing felt like a severe lack of awareness and terrible customer service. We won't be going back to this location because if they are this careless up front, then who knows what's going on...

This box lunch has amazing daily lunch specials… was missing lobster 🦞 in middle of new england winter. Decided to try their lobster roll and they had three options, quarter a pound - half a pound or 1 pound that’s huge/ I got the half pound. (Thought I’d save the second half for later, but that never happened. I ate the whole thing) it was the best lobster roll I’ve ever had in my long New England Life. Was very fresh and tender and sweet, perfectly proportioned bun with the butter. perfect - After every bite, I said mmmmm… can’t recommend the lunch special enough- and its open year round.. seriously yummmm

I had a turkey wrap with ham, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, onions, the mayonnaise and mustard. It was really good. I recommend stopping here for a quick bite to eat plenty of parking. The atmosphere was really nice and quaint places to sit outside to have lunch. Or if you want to go and continue on your way you can. I recommend stopping because they have multiple menus items and a good place to eat. During a long trip
