El Chico an Icon of the Mexican restaurant industry. Hey don’t judge me… I hate to admit this, but excluding Taco Bell, over the years I have eaten more Mexican food at various El Chico’s, than any other Mexican restaurant. In its day, dependably good food, consistent in taste and presentation; restaurant to restaurant. My wife had the N0 1 Lunch Special; large taco, cheese enchilada covered with red chili sauce. I went with my tiresome, but loved selection; Mama’s Special Enchiladas; two beef. Good salsas delivered with the chips, plus they still have the jalapeno, carrot and onion relish bowl, served with warm corn tortillas and butter. Properly prepared; a buttered tortilla, filed with the relish and/or salsa if you like, eaten like a taco or rolled and eaten like a taquito. Good memories! My wife and I have been eating at this particular El Chico off and on since the early 80’s. Back then there wasn’t much competition in the Mexican food scene in Tulsa. The El Chico’s were the best. Now, I think the brand is struggling as the competition grows in the Mexican food market.

My family loves eating here so I go with a lot.its not my favorite place by far but it’s a below average food and atmosphere place with decent service.i paid $6 the other night for a aka carte shrimp taco that I figured would be full size full of shrimp.i got a street taco with 3 shrimps.lol I would expect to pay around $3 for a street taco anywhere else full of meat and toppings.the enchiladas are ok.the thing I like best is the steak quesadilla with chipotle dipping sauce.favorite dessert anywhere tho which is the brownie fudge skillet sundae.it had the best hot brandy sauce poured on top of a hot big Walmart brownie.my nephew loves the place.he loves the enchiladas and rice and beans and free jello.crispy fries and crispy beef tacos are not bad either.

DISCLAIMER: I'm honored to be a Top 10 Reviewer for Google. I do my best to be fair and honest but realize your experience may differ from mine. So, please keep that in mind when considering this restaurant, establishment, and/or venue. REVIEW: Been eating at this restaurant for decades. My favs are the Chicken Monterey dinner, the Enchilada dinner, the combo fajitas, the top shelf guacamole, and the tortilla soup. Service is great. Manager is very friendly. The complimentary set-up of salsa, chips, tortillas, and relish is awesome. Pictured is the Combo Fajitas that are only $19.99 on Tuesdays after 5:00pm. You get the fajitas and two set ups of rice and choice of beans. A very good deal!

Today I DoorDashed from El Chico on 21st near Mingo. I have been a customer at this location for the past 25 years. I have learned to express to the restaurant that I would like extra chips and salsa or I will only get a small bag and a small amount of salsa, I know this and it has never been a problem. Today, after I placed my order through DoorDash, I even called El Chico and told them I placed the order and they told me they would be sure to pay attention to the chips and salsa, I felt pretty good about that. DoorDash shows up and guess what, nothing. No CHIPS and SALSA. I did what I tried to avoid by paying extra to DoorDash, I drove to the store where I asked to speak with the manager. Instead of speaking to the manager, he sent his bartender instead. I told her my problem and she said I should have dined in, while treating me with absolute disrespect. I finally got to speak with the manager who told me he put my order together himself and totally blamed DoorDash. I told him I simply wanted what I paid for and he ended up charging me an additional 24 plus bucks for food I already paid for and didn’t get. I tried to talk to him and he just walked away. $85.00 for two single fajita meals and some chips and salsa. I have literally spent thousands in that store over the years, but not another penny. Pathetic lack of customer service. Whoever owns this store should be completely ashamed of their staff. I was upset, but never belligerent the entire time. I even had to wait close to 30 additional minutes in the store for the screw job chips and salsa. I got home to cold food and a bad mood. I ate a cold hot...

The food was good but the service was awful at the bar. The manager, when asked if she could wipe the bar top off, said the bartender would (so basically, said No). We waited and waited and waited. When we asked the bartender to give us the towel and WE would do it, she made a big deal about it saying "no one has sat there all day". There were food service trays, chip crumbs and black linens all over it when we arrived. We get our drinks, then she disappears. After some time, we see her kind of frantically cleaning and tending other tables. No big deal, she said they were busy. We both work in the industry, we understand catching up. When finally getting to taking our order, she answered the phone in the middle of it. Are you freaking kidding me?! We almost left at that point! Our food did come out correctly except my burrito was dry. I asked for a side of sauce... We waited and waited and waited. When reminded and delivered, she said "thank goodness you had something else to eat or else you would've starved waiting on me". Then, part way through the meal, she commented on how much we had eaten and exclaimed we "had put a bunch away". Ok, box please...way to ruin the night. We were chatting, having drinks and not even finished because I had to wait for that damn sour cream sauce start eating my meal! Neither of our meals were half eaten! We were even planning to get another round but after that comment, I'd had enough. I didn't want to stick around to see if she'd call us fat cows or something even more ridiculous. We love this chain but will not be visiting this...

TLTR; Awful food and bad attitudes

Just had the worst experience I think I have ever had. I have been coming to this location for years and it used to be great. Not anymore it seems. It took far too long for our waitress to take our order. When our order was taken it took a very long time to get our appetizers then took a very long time to get us our entrees. My wife and brother in law's orders were wrong. All of our food had a strange bitter sauce that was far too spicy, it was barely edible. My mother and father ordered fajitas and the peppers and onions were RAW. We aren't normally a family to complain about such things so we ate the food. When we let the waitress know we weren't entirely satisfied with our food she went and got who I believe is the assistant manager. We asked if we could use a 5 dollar off coupon with the special offer we had gotten (we found it on FB and the restaurant didn't even know about it until we showed them). She said there was no way they could do it. Although upsetting we accepted it and went to leave. As my father was leaving the restaurant he overheard the waitress saying EXTREMELY rude things about our whole family. The only reason we even left a tip is because my mother is too nice for her own good. We will never be back to the 21st location. I can't believe this place has become so far gone after so many years of...
