Mr. Joe Gilling, I am writing you to let you know about my experience in Ollie’s. A number of years ago I used to visit this restaurant when I lived on the west side of town. At that time the food and service was pretty good. Today, 6/15/2019 I happened to be on the west side and decided to stop there for lunch. There was a large crowd when we first arrived. A motorcycle group, that I understand visits there annually. My wife and I came to Ollies around 11:50. After standing at the front waiting to be seated and being ignored. A fellow with the motorcycle group asked the lady at the front who was seating people, as there were other people ahead of us waiting to be seated as well. We were told by a passing waitress just to go sit where we wanted to. So we and the other people found tables. We sat at our table for nearly 10 minutes before anyone came to bring us menus. The waitress who finally came said she did not see us. Then went to find menus, finally getting our menus and deciding what we wanted to eat, we waited another 8 to 10 minutes for her to return. When we saw her she ignored us and went straight to cleaning off a table across from us. After a few moments she turned around, and was loaded up with dirty dishes and asked us what we wanted. I said to her, don’t you want to write this down? About that time another waitress came to the table and took our order. I thought at that point we might get better service. But, she took our order and left, then after another wait of 5 minutes or more she finally brought my salad, but did not bring my wife’s soup. She sat the salad on the table and left so fast I had no chance to even ask her about my wife’s soup. So anyway, after about 10 minutes plus, we finally got our food. So far we had been there nearly 35 minutes. By the time food was on the table, my wife and I were getting rather upset. My wife’s fried okra and soup were nearly cold, and our meals were over all below average. It sure was not the food I remember from the past. I was disappointed and it was my wife’s first time to visit there and she said to me “we won’t come here again”. The overall attitude of your staff was not good, it seemed like everyone was in a bad mood, stressed and hated their jobs. It was not at all a pleasant visit. At one point before our food arrived I was about to get up and leave. My wife convinced me to stay a little longer and wait for the food. Maybe that was a mistake? Anyway, after eating we went to pay for our food and the cashier was not any more pleasant than the waitresses had been. She hardly looked at us and seemed to be preoccupied talking to another lady who worked there. She did not ask me about the food and she did not say anything as we left. Sad attitude, even if the food were perfect, I would not want to experience Ollie’s again, if this is the morale there. In my experience, the manager/owner in a business usually sets the mood for how happy and friendly the staff is. I read other bad reviews of Ollie’s when I got home after my visit. Sir, maybe you should consider improving your restaurant or maybe turn it in to a train museum and quit...
Read moreFirst time here, did a Google search for family homestyle buffet and so glad I came. Got here a little late around 1:25 it closes at 2:00 but everyone was extremely friendly and my waitress Lana was amazing. She said she worked at Freddy's until it's shut down and her husband told her she needed to go get a job and get out of the house lol The whole time it was wonderful, now on to the food The buffet was $13.99 and totally worth it. It's somewhat limited choices but what they do they do great! I had the mashed potatoes with turkey gravy which the mashed potatoes had unsmashed chunks which I love perfectly seasoned. I had a piece of fried chicken and baked chicken both thighs and they were amazing perfect crunch on the chicken not too much coating just enough perfectly seasoned. Basic salad bar but nice crisp iceberg lettuce eggs mushrooms several other choices. Two soups to choose from a chili which I didn't get but I did get the chicken and noodle which had so much flavor and fresh chicken just look out for the occasional bone. For dessert they gave a choice of peach cobbler with basic crust or peach cobbler with a crumble top I chose the plane with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, and a very dark dense piece of chocolate cake that was amazing. If you are in the mood for basic extremely affordable home cooking and love some of just the basics you will love this place. The decor was interesting with all of the trains throughout and as I sit here and write this review there is an actual train going in the front of me on the tracks lol So maybe that is where it gets its name. Long review but I really did like this place a lot and everyone was extremely friendly which makes up in the event the food isn't totally perfect but in this case the food...
Read moreThoroughly disappointed. If I could give zero stars I would. Negative 5. Have never been here before this. On 12/23 we called to see what options they had for breakfast. Was hung up on. My daughter begged us to go on 12/27 so we go for brunch. Cute restaurant, the train was neat. The window sills were disgusting, blinds riddled with dust and sills with dust and dead flies. The service was awful. It seems as though there was no manager present, or not one that cared for cleanliness and service and quality of product. We sat at our table for about 15 minutes with no one asking us if we wanted menu food or buffet, we hadn’t been offered drinks or given menus. The waitress finally comes over and gives us menus, my bf and I order menu food, which was about $13-$15 per person. My kids got food from buffet and the only options were tough fried chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, over cooked rolls and a salad bar. The amount of breading on my catfish was terrible and the fish itself was mushy. Fries were exactly like McDonald’s frozen fries. Fried green tomatoes were way too salty and the rind on the tomatoes was so tough that it slid right out of the breading and then I was left with a fried breading shell. My bf ordered the ham and cheese sandwich and it was tiny. Basic white bread with fried bologna, not ham. Very small portion for $13. He was still hungry after eating. So was I, because I didn’t eat all my food, the quality was awful. Will not ever come back here. Thoroughly...
