Some good points and some very bad points. Im leaving a review based on a decent dining experience ruined by an aging waitress that got really snotty over a minor issue. Food that was moderate and lacking much of the authentic tastes a German restaurant should have.
My wife and I decided to try this place because we have both lived in Germany while in the military and I was born there as well as lived there to about nine years old. So our views of German food are based on a pretty wide variety of dining experiences across Europe.
My wife ordered a glass of Kostritzer which she liked very much. Its a shame our waitress spoiled the evening as my wife truly enjoys harder to find German wines and beers. I ordered a Radler and was a bit disappointed because it was grapefruit flavored and I was expecting more of a fest Radler. Not a fan but I think others might enjoy it. We got potato pancakes which were fair. We both ordered the schnitzel and sausage combo. My wife got the jager schnitzel with spatzle. I got the weiner schnitzel with grosse bratwurst. Honestly it was all middling fair.
My wife’s schnitzel had a black to brown 1/2” edge to it from over frying it and the jager mushroom sauce was OK to put it constructively. The spatzle was cooked well but was on the dry side and had little flavor to it.
My meal is what triggered behavior on the waitresses part that had I been the manager she would at the very least be given warning about her behavior before deciding if she should be let go.
My schnitzel was very lightly fried. As I was eating it I cut into it to find a fair portion through the middle was pink. Pink as in salmon pink in between layers on top and bottom of whitish pork. The crust was lightly browned around the edges and still whitish in most of the center. Considering schnitzel is hammered thin and it cooks very fast if the oil is to temperature and my wifes schnitzel was partially burnt I didn’t feel bringing that to the waitresses attention would cause her to get mouthy and flippant about it.
I have always been taught when working as wait staff you acknowledge the customers concerns, take the plate away, and allow a manager to intervene if needed. You do not get argumentative and dismissive loudly and rudely with a customer over something as trivial as undercooked entrees. No kitchen is perfect, mistakes happen. I did not call her any names, use derogatory or offensive language, nor insult her in any way.
When I got the waitresses attention and stated my entree was undercooked she stated in a snotty demeanor” no, its supposed to be that way we use smoked pork.” When I told her no thats not the way schnitzel is supposed to be cooked she again in a flippant demeanor stated “Well I’ve been a waitress for nine years and thats way our schnitzel always looks.”
She then said shed take the plate away and was mouthing off the whole back to the kitchen. I understand having worked as waitstaff you cant make every customer happy but getting flippant and argumentative about a customer saying their entree is undercooked is extremely rude and unprofessional. So mine was undercooked and my wife’s was burnt but apparently thats the way they have served it for at least nine years.
When the manager came to the table and apologized he asked if I wanted anything else and said he would take the meal off the ticket. My wife and both asked he please leave it on the ticket because we ate most of the food we were served and it was not an issue of not wanting to pay for our dinner. He took it off anyways and I wish he had not but I genuinely appreciate the effort to make his customers happy.
I would not recommend this place until they do some...
Read moreThe food was great. However, the waitress was horrible. Her service was okay, honestly she seemed to be moving a little slow and a few "jokes" she made were more on the rude side(when she came to take our orders she said "I hope you're ready to order. If not you'll get what I give you"). The worst part came after we paid. We were a group of 7, but paid separately. Two of our group left tips on the table where they could clearly be seen. I always hide my tip undead plate so someone that isn't the waitress doesn't grab it. Me and one of my friends were already out the door when we heard someone talking very loudly. It was our waitress, standing in the front of the restaurant, very loudly asking why we didn't leave a tip. She said "if I wasn't up to par tell me now" three times. I walked to the door and tried to explain that I hide my tips under plates, but I had to repeat myself because she would not stop talking long enough for anyone to really say anything to her. She was so rude and aggressive towards us. We left and three of our group of seven called to complain to the manager. The talk I had with the manager was okay, it gave me hope he was actually going to do something about this waitress being so rude to customers. However, one of my other friends did not have as good of a talk with the manager and the manager said "You guys should have come back into the restaurant. I cannot do anything about it now". Wrong. You have three people calling to report the same event and the same waitress, you can do something about it. So, great food, absolutely horrible staff. The food definitely was not worth dealing with the slow aggressive waitress and the manager that wasn't willing to do anything about...
Read moreMeet some of my extended family there on a whim. I really had no idea what to order so I went with the Original Wiener Schnitzel. My two daughters ordered two orders of the Grilled Chicken Breast. We had three soft drinks. The food was o.k. No complaints for what it was. The Wiener Schnitzel tasted and looked like chicken fried steak. (Maybe it was). Got out of there just shy of $80 after tip. It's a bit high for what we got (in my opinion). Also annoying, the price charged was $2 higher per entree than what the menu stated. (I was not looking at the lunch menu) Maybe an experienced patron of their menu would enjoy a better takeaway of the dining experience there. One of my table mates ordered a recommended house beer that, upon arrival, was 1/4 head. I dunno if this is standard for actual German beers, but I typically like dark, hoppy beers on draft, and the way this was served, I would have sent it back for what was paid for it. The server was somewhat forgetful but friendly. My tablemates who ordered beer were upset that their drink order was forgotten until the server was reminded. (Their beer was their drink for the duration...
