Last Saturday, after a long day of running errands and "adulting", my wife and I decided to try out Village Inn on Harvard, near 31st, just across from Dollar Tree. We had spent very little time out in public at since the thick of the pandemic and had formed a healthier habit of cooking and eating at home every night. But on this night, we just weren't feeling it. Since neither of us care for fast food either, we chose VI as a good all bases covered place to get back into the eating out game... We walked in about 9pm. It was not at all busy. That was a relief. We were greeted by a couple of the employees when we walked in. Our server sat us in a booth and got our drink order and left us to look at the menus. Overall, the service was great and didn't hover or ignore us. The food was very good as well. But we did notice a few differences since our last visit. The restaurant, tables, floors, bathrooms, and employees were clean and functional. Cleanliness and employee tact and manners had always been in short supply at Village Inn, in the past. I'm happy to say that all seems to have changed! The food was fantastic, cooked to request, and quick to hit the table. We were happy to learn that the coffee is still very good, as is the food! We asked for honey with our coffee and it was brought right to us without question. Our server was polite, and fast, and dealing with several tables at once. The food was fantastic, and although we noticed that the serving sizes are smaller now, especially in their skillet meals. That's not a complaint. One of my biggest inner battles has always been justifying going out to dinner (anywhere) since I don't eat leftovers. My wife and I noticed the skillets are smaller in general and portion size, but as good as always. No complaints here either! My only complaint was that we were both too full for pie. However, we've made a decision to get pie and coffee (at least!) and enjoy the atmosphere at least a couple of Wednesdays a month from now on.. all in all, everything was fantastic. Service, food, cost, cleanliness and coffee were all perfect! I can't speak for the pie as I haven't had it in years, but I'm sure it's just as delicious! We will absolutely be back this week for our Wednesday pie dates! Keep up...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI don't like to give negative or disparaging reviews, but I'm making a slight exception here. I would want to know, so I suspect others would want to know, also. First, the service here was excellent. My server was attentive, helpful, and pleasant. The manager came by the table for a courtesy stop to make sure I was comfortable. The dining room was exceptionally clean and in order. I would give five stars for the service and cleanliness alone. It's obvious the crew here cares about this location, which has been in Tulsa a very long time. I admit it's been at least three years since my last visit. That said, about the food... I realize people eat out more often and hardly anybody cooks anymore. But the restaurants too? I should have known when I walked in the door, and I couldn't smell anything cooking. I've eaten at Village Inns for years, and I've always loved their breakfast menu. It was after 10 at night, and I ordered a tasty-looking breakfast dish that was clearly displayed with a photo on the menu. It was served very quickly. To my dismay, everything on my plate had been cooked at some other time and likely, some other place. It was simply heated up and served. It was like getting leftovers. There was nothing "freshly cooked" about it. It was, quite frankly, awful. And, pricey. It looked nothing like the menu photo. I know this is a growing trend in similar places like IHOP. I won't eat there anymore because of their heat and serve practices. But this is the first time experiencing it at the Village. I know it's a corporate decision, and the good crew at this location have nothing to do with the food prep, cook, and delivery procedures. It's a corporate decision. This is why I'm giving them three stars and not one - for the sake of the genuinely good workers there. As for the food, guess it's Waffle House for me...

I absolutely loved village inn! I love 1970s interior always been in love with that look I was sad to see that mine that was shut down a good couple years ago near 51st and Yale. I just recently found out there was one on Harvard so I thought Iād give this one a try. Our waitress was wonderful very attentive to our needs. Iād say 99% of the staff was very friendly but one person can definitely ruin it with something so simple. I went to go pay while my friend was packing up the food we had leftover. My entire plan was to pay the tip with cash and pay with my card for the meal. When I got up to the counter right off the bat the woman with gauges in her ears, Iād say she was a manager was very rude. As I was paying and getting my card information in it asked me if I wanted to pay with āno tipā or ā15% tip of $5.44ā i was trying to see what the options were so I took a split 2 seconds to pick my option I heard a disgusted scuff come from the manager I decided to ignore it. Knowing good and well I left a tip on the table I proceeded to select āno tipāā¦again under her breath loud enough I could hear it she mumbled āf-ing rudeāā¦she then smiled with a evil grin and said the card declined. After trying to figure what was wrong I then payed again with the same card with my waitress at the counter and the payment went through immediately I told her the service from her was wonderful and I left her tip on the table.
I really wasnāt going to leave a nasty review but this needs to come to someoneās attention. The treatment I was given was unacceptable, this wonāt stop me from coming back but it left a nasty impression on the store when it only came from one...
