First time visiting the airport location. I got there at 10:30 ordered lunch. My to-go lunch was ready at 11:30. The servers were friendly. Atmosphere was nice. Clean establishment. The staff really tried to help me with my order. I asked for a 4 piece chicken dinner - no thighs. I was offered to get a 2 legs and 2 thigh meal 🤷🏽♀️. Again I stated - no thighs please. You can get 3 pieces - 2 wings, a leg and order a breast as extra. Okay! That will work!!! Ahhhhhh what I got was at BEST a tasteless blah. The chicken leg looked like a drummet that was cut off of the wing. Chicken breast was a nice size, chicken wings a little small but ok. The boasts of how wonderful the taste was what drove me to try the food. It left me disappointed. It was ever so slightly seasoned fried chicken dinner that any church momma can fry up. Mushy fried potatoes that the 5 year old grandbaby cut up with safety scissors avec micro slivers of onions,…also missing the flavor. Fried okra that was ok- with you guessed it - no flavor. Will I go back? That’s a no. I’ll go get Church’s Chicken, spicy sprinkles...
Read moreVisited with a large group and everyone raved about this place. I was excited to try it out. I really wanted to like it. It was too crowded to sit inside and enjoy, so we ordered to go and waited outside in the heat. My friend had been before and ordered wings and greens. I ordered fried pork chops with greens. We both ordered cabbage, but sadly, when we got all the way across town to our hotel, they subbed both out for green beans, which had an ok taste, but I was not pleased that no one even bothered to ask us if we wanted something different- if they were out of cabbage - not accounting for possible allergies, or maybe we just don't like green beans? My pork was seasoned ok, but a little dry. I would go there again to try other items, but I heard they are being forced out, and not being allowed to renew their lease. A shame! Seems like everyone in our group really enjoyed going...
Read moreSometimes when you go to a restaurant it’s about more than having a meal. So as my experience at Wanda J’s Next Generation soul food restaurant. Wanda J’s is located in the historic Greenwood District in Tulsa. Of course, this was the site of the Tulsa race massacre a century ago. As you approach the restaurant there are plaques in the sidewalk identifying countless businesses that were destroyed during the massacre. Then you arrive at Wanda J’s. A tiny building with big flavor. We tried chicken wings, pork chops with green beans, pinto beans and of course Mac and cheese. They were all delicious. The wings were only dusted with flour so they were relatively light and not greasy. The green beans had that tell tale flavor of pork making them tasty but probably not as lo cal as you might think. Overall we enjoyed the food and the...
