Heritage House North River — Restaurant in Tuscaloosa

Good to great baked goods. I can usually find a table to sit at easily. This location is poor though—it can’t decide what it wants to be. For a coffee shop it’s waaaaaay too loud to get much done—even with earbuds/noise cancellation it’s LOUD. It’s also hard to have a conversation/hear for meetings. It switches to a restaurant at times and so things are sort of stuck halfway. I also have no idea when this place is open/closed and as what type of business so I avoid it. There is no menu posted, the line is either on the left or just go straight to the register (ok if you’re the only one but confusing and a problem when people line up on both sides). Overall, the problem is the bad building architecture—it’s two stories with beautiful high ceilings that reflect, amplify, and echo all the noise around the whole place. As a result, people talk louder, echos more, talk louder, etc.

Parking and the road in are a problem—the street is only about 1.5 lanes wide instead of 2, people then park on the road and parking is small and tight. Service is just OK. Other locations are better and I’ll start looking for a...

Went to Heritage House with a friend - both ordered the same sandwich, but my friend didn’t want the cheese or spread on her sandwich. Barista up front says it’s totally fine - that it’ll relatively taste the same given the type of meat used on it. She rings my friend in and before I can even order - whom I am assuming is the chef walks up front and starts grilling my friend about how the sandwich won’t taste good without the spread and basically bullies my friend into changing her order. They were out of 3 different things we asked for! Two were when we ordered, then they had to come to our table to tell us we had to modify our order after we sat down. Out of a soup we were interested in, a drink we wanted, then part of our food. Oh! And also out of a condiment we needed. The girl who brought food to our table did not want to be there! She never smiled or talked to us. When leaving we could not get from the restroom out of the building since patrons at 2 different tables blocked the aisle going out.
