Urban Cookhouse — Restaurant in Tuscaloosa

Their online ordering system is relatively easy to use, and my food was always ready for me when I got there.

Located in a large, upscale shopping center, Urban Cookhouse is a sort of upperclass, healthy-ish fast casual restaurant. They have a drive-through for pickup orders, which I didn't believe when I saw it on the website...it exists. Strange, but cool.

Though I didn't stick around long, the interior of the restaurant looked clean and nicely decorated. The service I received was very pleasant and nice.

I ordered the buffalo chicken wrap with roasted veggies and a sweet tea. It kept well on my drive back to work. The sweet tea was refreshing and had the right amount of sugar. The veggies didn't have a ton of seasoning, but their flavors stood out well enough on their own; the dish consisted of squash, broccoli, carrots, and I believe some zucchini.

The buffalo chicken wrap / rolls up was a really good size for the price! I was really hungry but still couldn't quite eat them all (and I'm a pretty big eater). Not a lot of cheese on there, mostly just chicken and buffalo sauce, but the wrap was nice and crispy at the edges and the chicken was mostly juicy. I ordered the Cubano for myself along with mac and cheese for my pint-sized companion. Other guests at the table enjoyed a meaty steak sandwich and the generously portioned quesadilla.

El Cubano sandwich is a Southern take on the classic Cuban pressed sandwich, served hot and featuring marinated pork with cheese, mustard, and pickles. This Southern fusion version works beautifully and is best accompanied by good company and a carafe of Sangria.

Urban Cookhouse caters to family dining without being child focused. It shows in their great options for standard fare and their kid's menu of simple, but high-quality meals. They also have family-friendly restrooms that come fully equipped with diaper changing facilities. There's even a little foot stool to aid youngsters in scrubbing the germs off their tiny hands.

I enjoyed this very relaxed family dining experience and look forward to many repeat visits. 100% would recommend to family...

I am so sad writing this because this is my favorite restaurant in Tuscaloosa. But how I was treated as a customer today was unacceptable. I have ordered off the holiday menu every thanksgiving and Christmas for the past 3 years. This year an item was left off. I called about it and even though they made the item for me right then, they still wanted me to pay full price for the item even though it was clearly highlighted and written on my catering receipt and I had to stop cooking for my family and drive over 30 min to pick up my casserole. When I complained the manager (who didn’t even come out to talk to me) said the best he could do was take half . I felt like since it was ultimately their fault for leaving it off in the first place that they should have been more than happy to do the right thing and not charge me for my troubles.
